  • Up Front for May 17

    The Installation Safety Office hosts the "101 Days of Summer Safety" kickoff today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Specker Field House on South Post. The annual event highlights critical risks associated with summer activities. The "101 Days of Summer Safety" campaign lasts from Memorial Day, May 28, through Labor Day, Sept. 3. This period typically experiences a spike in vehicle and recreation accidents. The campaign is designed to promote safety and reduce the number of accidents during the summer vacation season. All Soldiers, employees, Families and friends of Fort Belvoir are encouraged to drop by.

  • Up Front for May 10

    Shirley Contracting construction crews will complete the majority of the widening of Gunston Road by May 15. The two year project stretches from 12th Street to John J. Kingman Road and improves traffic flow on the installation’s most traveled street. All construction is expected to be finished by July 1.

    Flager Road will be closed between 18th and 21st streets from Monday to May 21, weather permitting. Emergency equipment will have access to the work area. The proper signage will be placed at affected areas for proper traffic flow.

    The 2012 Off-Duty Safety Awareness presentation, titled "If You Accept the Risks, Can You Afford the Costs?" is one of the best safety presentations seen in a while. It takes a few minutes, but it is well worth the time. The goal is to give commanders and leaders the knowledge to educate, empower and challenge Soldiers, and to raise awareness, as the Army enters this critical juncture and deadliest period of the fiscal year, the spring and summer months.   • Up Front For April 19

    The morning outbound traffic pattern at Walker Gate changed on Wednesday. From 5-9 a.m., Monday through Friday, traffic exiting Fort Belvoir onto Mount Vernon Memorial Highway will only be permitted to turn right. People needing to reach Richmond Highway (Route 1) are encouraged to leave post through Pence Gate. There is no change to incoming traffic at Walker Gate.

  • Up Front for April 12

    The parking area between the old Arts and Crafts Center and the new Arts and Crafts Center (along Gunston Road on South Post) will be closed for parking line painting by the contractor on Friday. All vehicles currently parked in that area must be removed by 6 p.m. today. Call (703) 806-4647 for details.

    The annual Easter Sunrise Service will be held on Sunday at 6:30 a.m. at the Fort Belvoir Officers’ Club.

    Effective immediately, the new hours of operation for the Fort Belvoir ID Card Facility are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.

    Walt Whitman Middle School is celebrates its 50th birthday today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the school. Alumni, staff and Families, as well as current students, staff and Families are encouraged to attend and enjoy the festivities.

    The annual Statewide Tornado Drill is scheduled for Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. (In case of actual severe weather on that date, the drill will be postponed to March 21.)

    Daylight Saving Time will occur Sunday morning at 2 a.m. Remember to move your clocks forward ("Spring Forward") one hour before you go to bed Saturday night.

  • Up Front for March 1

    Logistics Civil Augmentation Program (LOGCAP) conducts a change of command ceremony on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Wallace Theater. Col. Alex B. Fink takes command from Col. Darlette P. Stowers. The ceremony is open to the public.

  • Up Front for Feb. 23

    Fort Belvoir's Pence Gate will be closed for performance verification testing from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Closures will occur at the same time each night through Saturday. Testing will be halted to allow entrance of emergency vehicles. First Street will be closed at the intersection with Third Street, and, Dewitt Circle will be blocked south of the entrance of the parking deck. Belvoir Road will be blocked at the intersection with Surveyor Road. During the closing, Tully gate will be open to handle inbound traffic.

    The Legal Assistance office is closed on Friday and Monday. (It is open on Friday for pre-scheduled appointments only). Notary services are also closed. The office will reopen Tuesday.
