  • Interstate compacts ease school transitions

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal last month signed into law the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children, known in the military community as "the compact." The compact is designed to help ease the transition of military children as they move between school systems across the country. • Hotline: Walker Gate changes made to avert accidents

On April 18, 2012 Fort Belvoir (Directorate of Emergency Services) changed the traffic pattern at Walker Gate. • Share the Road

Motorcycles have been around since the 19th Century. Just watching motorcycle riders tear down the street is exhilarating and riding one is even more of a thrill, if it’s done safely and respectfully.

  • Popular event affected by unfortunate circumstances

The Fort Belvoir Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation kicked off its much anticipated the 2012 Trout Fest event on Saturday. Early during the event, staff observed that the trout were not active and it was determined, after investigation and to our dismay, that the fish were no longer viable. The DFMWR staff immediately halted the event and began issuing refunds at the Fort Belvoir Community Center to our customers.

Trout Fest — a memorable event? Definitely "Yes," I dedicate this editorial to my Dad who taught me to fish some 40 plus years ago. Thanks Dad.

  • Drinking and driving: It's not a new problem

Drunken driving actually began before the invention of cars. As soon as a person climbed onto the back of another animal, there must have been drunken horse, camel and elephant riders. Drinking played a large role in going to sea also.
