The Army Management Staff College has its 3rd annual leadership workshop from Jan. 29 to 31. This year's theme is "Army Strong ... Developing Civilian Leaders."
All Army and DoD employees may attend the leadership workshop. The registration deadline is Dec. 31. The cost is $70, which covers admission, meals, transportation and workshop materials. There is an additional $30 late fee for payments after Jan. 1.
During the workshop, guest speakers will present their perspectives on developing civilian leaders across academia and the federal government. They include: Gen. William S. Wallace, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Commanding General; James Gunlicks, G-3/5/7 Deputy Director of Training; U.S. Army War College Command Sgt. Maj. Raymond Houston; Col. Thomas Kolditz, U.S. Military Academy professor and head of the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership, and author of "In Extremis Leadership: Leading as if Your Life Depended on It."
Other highlights include a Base Realignment and Closure panel, including representatives from the Army, Air Force, Navy and DoD; and members of the Senior Executive Service will have breakout sessions.
John Register, U.S. Olympic Committee Paralympics Division associate director of outreach and development; and Leslie H. Carroll, director of contracting at the Army Contracting Agency at Fort Campbell, Ky., returning guests from the 2nd annual leadership symposium, will participate in acquaintance luncheons.
An executive development program, featuring speakers from Wal-Mart, Xerox and other companies, will discuss how industry leaders build their workforces.
The leaders will provide a forum for in-depth discussion on topics such as developing Army employees who can lead through the 21st century. They will offer a variety of presentations on building leaders organizations through education, training, mentoring and a progression of responsibilities.
