Saturday's Little League games were played on the warmest day of the season so far, as temperatures soared to over 90 degrees.
Players and fans dealt with the heat by seeking shade, refreshing themselves with cool liquids, and running through sprinklers. The day saw the end of the season of the machine pitch and tee-ball divisions.
Seventy-five volunteers and three staff members coordinate the 17 teams in the eight week long season that began in April. More than 1,000 hotdogs were sold during the season, many distributed by volunteer Evette Jones who showed up to help whether or not her son's team was on the field.
Fort Belvoir Little League commissioner Bill Behring is thankful for all of the volunteers.
"The volunteer work is a tremendous essential asset, and the season would not exist without all of the help of mothers, fathers, brothers and caring individuals," he said. "It's been a great and delightful, fun filled season. The children truly benefit from it immensely."
The last games for the Minor Division will be held Saturday, and the major and junior divisions will end their regular season play this coming week.
