For military retirees, services, benefits and now, Fort Belvoir's landscape, are constantly evolving.

The annual Retiree Appreciation Day, Sept. 15, aims to not only recognize local retirees, but also update them on the continuous changes.

"We have this special day to recognize [the retirees,]" said Hazel Cooper, Retirement Services officer for the Directorate of Human Resources. "Just to show appreciation and that they're not forgotten."

The event begins with keynote speaker Col. Kenneth Canestrini, commander of the DeWitt Healthcare Network, discussing the new hospital location and other changes regarding the hospital.

The day, which begins at 8 a.m., will also offer several other guest speakers, a health clinic, exhibits, free give-a-ways and much more.

A representative from Combat-Related Special Compensation and the editor of Army Echoes will discuss updates and address concerns before the Health Fair.

The fair will then offer vaccinations, screenings and a variety of literature concerning health issues before Fort Belvoir's Dining Facility opens for lunch.

Retirees and their families can pay $3.65 to reminisce with their families about their military days when they ate at the DFAC.

At the end of the day participants have the chance to win door prizes.
