The Army Management Staff College offers its 3rd Annual Leadership Symposium entitled "Army Strong - Developing Civilian Leaders," Jan. 29-31.
The three-day event will bring leaders from across the country together to hear from prominent leaders representing the federal government and private sector. They will share their perspectives on the development of civilian leaders in the 21st century.
Guest speakers include Gen. William Wallace, commanding general of the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command; Volney James "Jim" Warner, president of the Army Civilian University; and Mr. John Register, associate director of outreach and development for the United States Olympic Committee's Paralympics Division.
Following a keynote luncheon address, Col. Thomas A. Kolditz, professor and head of the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership the United States Military Academy, West Point, will be available to autograph his book, "In Extremis Leadership - Leading as if Your Life depended on it." No books will be available for purchase at the symposium.
In a recent interview, Kolditz stated "the focus of the book is to explain how leadership in dangerous environments is different from leadership in places where there is no danger or adversity." Kolditz has spoken before a number of federal agencies including the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. He discovered that DoD personnel need to understand the role of leadership in dangerous environments as they continue to support a culture where everything revolves around the Global War on Terrorism.
"These leadership lessons are not just for the Soldiers," Kolditz said. "A concrete understanding will help to make careers more meaningful."
