Since 1881, people have turned to the American Red Cross for assistance in times of crisis. Today, American Red Cross employees and volunteers help people across the country prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
The Fort Belvoir American Red Cross now needs volunteers for its Fort Belvoir office, Dewitt Army Community Hospital, and the new hospital slated to open in 2011.
Sergio Nino II, America Red Cross Coordinator of Service to Armed Forces at Belvoir, said, "The current volunteer program at Fort Belvoir has 94 volunteers, both youth and adult. We are looking at spiking our volunteer force to 200 plus, to accommodate the new community hospital."
Volunteers are placed in positions throughout the hospital. Belvoir's Red Cross volunteers work in the hospital and at the Middleton Road office, helping to manage the day-to-day activities.
Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to contact the Fort Belvoir American Red Cross office, 703-805-2057, visit the Web site,
www.redcrossnca.org, or stop by the office at 9716 Middleton Road, next to the bowling center, to schedule an orientation.
Office hours are Mondays to Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hospital volunteers work various hours, days and shifts.
The process is smooth and takes about an hour.
Anyone's special skills can help your community and the American Red Cross.
You may never work harder but, you'll never feel better about what you've done. It will be the best job you never get paid to do!
