Fort Belvoir's chapels received about $20,000 in donations Sunday in support of its Chaplain Food Basket Thanksgiving Program for military families in need.
All of the monetary donations the chapels collected during Sunday's services will go directly to purchasing food for baskets.
"The chapel communities want to be able to help some of our families that are already serving and giving so much," Installation Chaplain (Lt. Col.) James King said. "We want to show them we appreciate them, to show them we care, and show them God really
does love them and cares about their needs."
King said a host of volunteers will gather Nov. 21 and 22 to prepare each basket of food for delivery. Baskets will be delivered to families on post between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
King's goal is to supply each family with more than enough food in each basket, so they can enjoy their meal beyond Thanksgiving as well.
"We provide a very nice, ample Thanksgiving meal for these deserving families," King said. "We want it to go quite a bit further and provide with abundance, because when you are doing something with God, there are always leftovers."
