Starting November 1, the installation's Visitors Processing Operation Center will be the site for all future in and out processing, background checks, fingerprinting and firearm registrations, according to Frank Hentschel, the installation's deputy director of emergency services.
"Our intent is to have the center at Tulley Gate be our one-stop shop for DoD related matters," Hentschel said. "By consolidating services to one central location, it will not only keep things under one roof, but make things easier for everyone requesting these services."
Presently, Hentschel said fingerprinting and background checks are done exclusively at Fort Belvoir's military police station on Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m.
With the change, all services will be offered seven days a week at the Tulley Gate VPOC from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. until the end of the year. To aid in the transition, Hentschel said additional personnel have been hired by DES and that new hours will be posted starting in January.
