Child car seats
Belvoir's Fire Department conducts child car seat safety checks from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at all three stations, North Post, South Post and Davison Army Airfield.

U.S. Army Soldier Show starts
The theme of this year's U.S. Army Soldier Show is Lights! Camera! Action!
The event is scheduled to open Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Wallace Theater, followed by a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.
There is also a 7:30 p.m. show Saturday with space available, limited seating.
Audience members will feel like they are in a live television studio throughout the show.
The Belvoir shows start a 6½-month tour with more than 100 performances on 46 installations, including in Hawaii, Korea and Washington, D.C.'s Warner Theatre.
Dance, rap, English R&B, visuals, patriotic tunes, movement, love of country and a roller-skater are all part of the 90-minute theatrical concert production.
Military spouse job fair express
The USO of Metropolitan Washington, along with Joint Employment Transition Services, hosts a Military Spouse Job Fair May 2 at Fort Belvoir. The job fair features more than 25 employers throughout the National Capital Region; one-on-one job search and résumé-review consultations; sessions on Preparing for Federal Employment, Career Strategies in an Economic Downturn and Maximizing New GI Bill Education Benefits & Career Advancement Accounts.
Participants can register for morning or afternoon sessions, with gift bags going to the first 100 attendees at each session. The morning session is from 8 to 11:30 a.m., followed by the afternoon session, 11:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
The job fair is at Army Community Service, 9800 Belvoir Road.

Day-tripping
MWR has trips to Atlantic City, N.J., Saturday and May 30.
The trips, open to all ages, depart the Community Center at 8 a.m. and return between 10:30 and 11 p.m. The cost is $45 per person, with an $18 to $25 rebate. Sign up at the center, Bldg. 1200, Taylor Road.

Budgeting for Baby
Expecting a baby? Army Community Service can help with answering lots of questions with its bi-monthly seminar on financial planning and basic information on nursery needs and safety concerns unique to first-time mothers.

Spouse club scholarship
The Belvoir Enlisted Spouses' Club is encouraging applicants to apply for its 2009 Scholarship awards. Two awards will be made to high school seniors who are family members of enlisted military personnel in the Fort Belvoir area, and two awards will be made to a spouse of an enlisted person for the 2009-2010 school year.

Military Spouse Appreciation Luncheon
Army Community Service hosts a free luncheon for military spouses May 8 from noon to 3 p.m. Tickets for the free event are available at ACS's front desk in Bldg. 200, Belvoir Road.

Mother's Day buffet
The Officers' Club hosts a Mother's Day Buffet May 10. Seatings are at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and reservations are required. The cost is $27.95 for club members and $29.95 for non-members. The cost for children 7 to 12 years is $12.50, and children 6 and younger eat for free.

Travel fair
ITR's Travel Fair is May 14 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Community Center. Admission is free and there will be giveaways from vendors, a packing contest, a monster coloring mural and more.

Outdoor Recreation has a special day planned for you and your best four-legged friend to show off. Fort Belvoir's Doggie Days, May 9, is a day of fun and games for pooches and the whole family.

New e-mail subscription
The Fort Belvoir Public Affairs Office has launched a new Belvoir E-Mail List Service, which enables people to automatically get e-mails with news and information about the installation.
Subscriptions are available from listserv .belvoir.army.mil/.
Some subscribers use work and home e-mail accounts to get late-breaking information that might be sent after hours, such as announcements relating to weather and other contingencies.
The listserv is an "announcement only" service. Subscribers will not be able to post messages. Content is restricted to command information for and about Belvoir. The listserv will replace a number of separate e-mail distribution lists now used by the PAO to put out information. The PAO will stop using those distribution lists as of midnight, May 17.
People who get News & Information notes via other distribution lists, will want to subscribe to the ListServ to continue getting the notes.
Learn, grow, lead
Army Family Team Building hosts a Learn...Grow...Lead! Workshop May 13 to 15, in Army Community Service, 9800 Belvoir Road, Bldg. 200, Belvoir.
"From Spouse to Community Leader: A Workshop in Personal and Professional Growth," provides leadership training to all military spouses and equip them with techniques, insights, skills and tools that allow them to be more effective and successful in their roles as volunteers and as leaders.

Constructive conflict resolution
Fort Belvoir's Civilian Personnel Advisory Center and Vicore, Inc. present a course, Constructive Conflict Resolution, May 12 and 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Bldg. 320.
The ability to cope successfully with conflict is among the most important interpersonal skills.
The workshop is designed to help participants develop a wide range of approaches to resolving conflict. Participants will determine their usual style for handling conflict, which is tied to many factors: family culture, personality, experience, gender and job requirements. Through exercises, lectures, group discussion and exercises, videos and case studies and role-playing, participants will learn many methods of resolving conflict.
The course costs $235 per participant.

The Mobilization/ Deployment and Family Readiness Program conducts monthly classes as follows:

PWOC Free Market
The Protestant Women of the Chapel have a free market May 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The market is at Woodlawn Chapel, across from the Commissary.
People are asked to bring donations from 4 to 8 p.m. May 11. Everything donated should be clean and in working condition.
The event is an ideal way to do some spring cleaning and help other families in the military community.
Jewish
Fort Belvoir Jewish Congregation has a Yom HaShoah program Friday.
Saturday Service is at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Children's Service, in Belvoir Chapel.
A Jewish Welfare Board Program is Tuesday. The Jewish Welfare Board, the Jewish Chaplains Endorser, will have a program at the Religious Education Center.
The congregation has weekly Friday night services at 8 p.m. at Belvoir Chapel.

Education
ODU
The Military Career Transition Program's Master of Science in Education summer classes at Old Dominion University begin May 11. The second summer session begins June 19. Non-degree applications are being accepted now for summer and fall classes. Non-degree students become degree-seeking after beginning the program.
The Master of Science in Education is an initial licensure program that transfers to 44 states and DoD schools around the world. Licensure is offered in elementary, middle school and high school. Active/retired military, military spouses and qualified civilians are eligible for the program. The ODU program adviser can evaluate transcripts to determine what subjects the student could qualify to teach.
Personnel who transfer before completing the program locally can finish their program by taking online or video streamed courses.

Park University
Park University offers undergraduate programs and associate degrees.
Summer classes begin May 26 for onsite and June 1 for internet courses.
