Part of history
Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site hosts Recruiting Day Saturday, which gives people the chance to explore Civil War re-enacting.
From 1 to 4 p.m., Soldiers and civilians of the 3rd U.S. Regular Infantry will be on hand to talk about uniforms and equipment, demonstrate drills and explain the roles of military and civilian re-enactors. Admission is free.

Stable tour
Trinity Episcopal Church in Upperville, Va., sponsors the Hunt Country Stable tour, a self-driven tour that includes more than 14 stops at some of the most prestigious stables and equine facilities in Virginia. The tour includes a variety of demonstrations, a chance to see horses up close and talk with stable managers and trainers. Stables, carriage houses, equestrian training facilities and Civil War battle sites are all part of the tour.
The tour starts at the church, 9114 John S. Mosby Hwy., Upperville, Va., 20184, I-66 west to Route 50 West, exit 57B, toward Winchester, 25 miles to Middleburg and then to Upperville. The tour is May 23 and 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tickets are $20 per person until May 16, $25 per person after May 16 and at the gate. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets for groups of 10 or more are $18 per person. A catered lunch will be available to buy at the church.
Event proceeds benefit the church and its local, national and international charities and non-profit programs.

Library programs
Kingstowne Library has several programs in March. Registration is accepted up to two weeks in advance by calling 703-339-4610.
The library is on the lower level of the Landsdowne Shopping Centre.
One-on-one personalized Internet/Microsoft Office tutoring starts Monday. Adults can call for appointments.
Wednesdays in the month, at 10:15 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., Practice Your English, a conversation group for adults learning English.
Wednesday, noon, Lunch Bunnies, for ages 1 to 5, with an adult. Patrons bring lunch, the library supplies the fun.
Thursday, noon, adult Daytime Book Discussion Group, "Jim the Boy," by Tony Earley.
March 9, 10:30 a.m., Rainbow Readers. Colorful stories for ages 24 to 35 months, with an adult.
March 11, 2 p.m., Older Adults Book Group, "Presidential Courage: Brave Leaders and How They Changed America 1789-1989," by Michael R. Beschloss. Cosponsored by the Kingstowne Center for Active Adults.
March 14, 10 a.m., Friends Book Sale. Gems and finds for all readers of all ages.
