May I have this dance?
Junior Troop 978 of the Fort Belvoir Girl Scouts sponsors a dance event for all school-age girls, Dancing Through the Decades, Friday from 4:15 to 7:30 p.m. in Fort Belvoir Elementary School's Cafeteria.
Dinner, drinks and snacks will be provided. The girls will learn the Bunny Hop, the Twist, the Bump, the Macarena and more dances.
Participants can even dress up in their favorite decade outfit.
The event costs $6 for Girl Scouts and $10 for non-Girl Scouts.

Financial Roadshow
Fort Belvoir's Army Community Service hosts a Financial Readiness Roadshow Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Officer's Club.
The show is aimed at helping servicemembers and DoD cardholders and their families by strengthening their financial circumstances and teaching important ways for them to take control of their finances.
Some of the topics that will be covered include identity theft, credit reports; managing debt and saving smart.
Attendees can also consult with personal financial counselors in free, private face-to-face sessions.
The event is limited to 400 people. Interested individuals or families can register at militaryhomefront.dod.mil/service/conference. Some registrations will be accepted at the doors.

AFTB Level III
An Army Family Team Building Level III class is Feb. 10 to 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Army Community Service, 9800 Belvoir Road, Bldg. 200.
Level III presents 10 courses, including: Building a Cohesive Team, Managing Group Conflict, Leader Assisted Problem Solving, Communication Skills for Leaders, Leadership Styles. Free child care is provided at the South Post CDC's hourly care for children registered with CYS. Child care reservation requests must be made with the AFTB office by Feb. 2.

Engineer luncheon
The Engineer Officer Candidate School Association has a celebratory luncheon Feb. 15 at 1:30 p.m. in the Officers' Club. The event commemorates the centennial of the Engineer Officer Training School at Camp Humphreys in 1918-19.

Newcomer's orientation
The next newcomer's orientation is Feb. 2 at Barden Education Center Auditorium. People who attend can learn about Belvoir and what resources and events are available in the community and meet the installation command staff and key directorates among the installation. New spouse orientation
Are you a new spouse living at Fort Belvoir or the surrounding area? Would you like to meet other spouses, learn about your community and get information about resources available to spouses?
A spouse meet and greet is Feb. 4 from 10 a.m. to noon in Vernondale Village Community Center.

Arts and crafts classes
Kawamura Arts and Crafts has ongoing framing, stained glass and jewelry-making classes through winter. Seven weekly stained glass classes begin Feb. 5 and April 12 for $100 plus supplies.
Jewelry classes include basics, stained-glass pendant, wire basics and chunky bracelet and are conducted Saturday mornings for $35 each plus $15 for supplies.

The Fort Belvoir Self-Help Frame Shop in Kawamura offers four-session Beginning Framing Classes for $60, plus materials.

Love on the Potomac
The Officers' Club celebrates Valentine's Day from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 14, with a gourmet meal, glass of wine, entertainment and dancing.

Bridal Fair
MWR's annual bridal fair is Feb. 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Officers' Club. More than 50 vendors will present brides- and grooms-to-be and families ideas to help with wedding planning.
Vendor items include DJs, linens, cakes, bands, photographers, videographers, jewelry, makeup, gowns, tuxedos, travel and more.

Seafood buffet
Fort Belvoir Officers' Club hosts a seafood buffet from 6 to 9 p.m. every Friday, which includes crab legs, shrimp, mussels, beef, chicken, salad bar, desserts and more, along with live entertainment. Home educators
Registration for Fort Belvoir Home Educators' Co-op Session Three ends Feb. 19. The co-op is at Markham Center, South Post.
FBHE is a group of military and DoD families dedicated to home educating their children from preschool through high school. It is also a support group and conducts activities that enrich the lives of members' families.

Bird-watching group
Fort Belvoir Outdoor Recreation has a bird watching interest group for people interested in observing or learning to identify different birds.
The group will travel to observe and identify wild birds of Virginia and Maryland in their natural habitat.

Shrek on Broadway
Fort Belvoir ITR has a New York City Broadway show trip to see Shrek The Musical May 16.
The bus departs Fort Belvoir Community Center at 5:30 a.m., for the show which begins at 2 p.m. The cost of $145 per person includes bus transportation and premium seating tickets. The trip is canceled if tickets are not sold by Jan. 31.

AFAP training, symposium
Training for the annual Army Family Action Plan is March 9, with an alternate date of March 10.
Belvoir's AFAP Symposium is March 12 and 13. The AFAP and the symposium is an Army-wide program that enables all members to raise issues of concern, make recommendations to improve quality of life and to ensure the standard of living keeps up with the changing times, on a global level.

Searching for a job?

Employment Program Orientations, an overview of local employment, including federal jobs, resume assistance, registration for job skill training classes, are Tuesdays from 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays at ACS. Registration is required.

Adult Confirmation
Catholic adults who have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation may register for an Adult Confirmation Class. Classes are Sundays in February from 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Religious Education Center.

Investment in marriage
FamilyLife's Weekend to Remember weekend getaway is March 13 to 15 at the Hyatt Regency Reston. Registration is $69 per person for military (active, guard, or reserve) and $129 per person for civilians.

Protestant Confirmation
Protestant confirmation classes continue Sundays through March at 9:20 a.m. in the Religious Education Center. The class is for Protestant children, seventh grade or older, who were baptized as children or want to be baptized. Parent approval is required to attend.

Men's Bible Studies

Jewish
Saturday, 9:30 a.m. Morning Service, Kids Service at 10:30 a.m., followed by lunch.

Feb. 6 - Tu B'Shevat Seder - Jewish Arbor Day. Come celebrate the fruits and nuts from Israel. 8 p.m., Seder and program.
Fort Belvoir Jewish Congregation is in search of all new Jewish Soldiers and families. The Fort Belvoir Jewish Congregation has weekly Friday night services at 8 p.m. at Belvoir Chapel.

UMUC
University of Maryland University College is registering for spring classes. Face-to-face classes start Monday and March 23.
UMUC is in Room 128 of Barden. Office hours are Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon.

ODU
Old Dominion University's Military Career Transition Program is designed for active/retired military, military spouses and qualified government personnel wanting to teach elementary, middle or high school.
The teaching license is good in 44 states and DoD schools around the world.

Central Michigan University
Registration for Spring II and III classes at Central Michigan University is open from Monday through Feb. 6, for classes that begin Feb. 17 and April 3, respectively.
Central Michigan University classes are available at six locations in the D.C metro area, including Belvoir.
CMU accepts applications year round. Degrees can be completed in 18 months or less.

Webster University
The GRE/GMAT is not required for admissions at Webster U.
Evening classes are held at Barden Education Center.
