Award-winning dance

Photo by Marny MalinThe sixth-grade Juniors of Troop 978 of Fort Belvoir have officially earned their Bronze Award, the third-highest award in Girl Scouting. They have spent the last three months planning a "Dancing Through the Decades" event, which culminated Friday in Fort Belvoir Elementary School cafeteria.

About 100 girls from kindergarten through eighth grade danced the night away to tunes from the 50s to the new millennium. Troop 978 led the dances for the Bunny Hop, the Twist, the Tootsie Roll and more.

Award recipients had to put in at least 15 hours of planning time working on menus, budget, marketing, public relations, music and costumes.
