The 2005 Base Realignment and Closure law will result in approximately 19,300 new personnel working at locations controlled by Fort Belvoir; approximately 4,000 of those at main post.

Installation staff is already promoting the use of alternate work schedules to help alleviate on-post traffic congestion expected as a result of an
increase in the work force. Some considerations include flextime, where employees are allowed flexibility in their start and stop times at work; compressed workweek, where employees work fewer but longer days; and staggered shifts, where employees' shifts are staggered to reduce the number of employees arriving and leaving the post at one time.
