Mount Vernon High School students are set to participate in the Fort Belvoir Job Shadow Day. As Belvoir is a business partner with the school, it has invited about 40 juniors and seniors to visit the post Feb. 5 to shadow professionals in their daily work.
Among the many job-shadowing experiences, five students will shadow professionals in Belvoir's legal department and have a chance to observe military and civilian professionals trained as attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, claims examiners and administrative assistants. Students may also be able to participate in a mock trial.
Three students will shadow a classroom lead in child care centers. Students will be able to observe in an infant, toddler or preschool room.
Other students will observe Headquarters Battalion and work with staff at Headquarters and Headquarters Company and with NCOs and Soldiers who will teach them about their specialties.
Students will meet and observe Soldiers who serve as medics, chaplains, supply technicians and administrators.
The Defense Acquisition University will have students observe in the areas of video graphics, human relations and computer graphics. Additionally, students on the staff of the high school newspaper, EmVee High, will shadow professionals at the Belvoir Eagle. These students will learn about interviewing subjects for a variety of stories, including sports, Army life, and Belvoir events.
