Canoe/kayak fishing trip
Outdoor Recreation canoe/kayak instructors offer a day of fishing in Accotink Bay Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Fishermen should bring bait, sunscreen, a hat, water and snacks.
Participants must adhere to the Virginia state requirements for a fishing license.

Canoe, kayak rental
Outdoor Recreation now has new canoes and kayaks for rent.
Half-day and full day rentals are available for single and tandem kayaks and canoes.
Rental fees include life preserver and car-top carrier, if needed. Also, ODR has a specific boat launching site on Tompkins Basin near the ODR, Bldg. 778.

Army Community Service's Employment Readiness Program offers the following events:
Registration for a fall Medical Administrative class, taught by Northern Virginia Community College medical campus instructors, starts Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Deployment and family readiness
The Mobilization/Deployment and Family Readiness Program conducts the following monthly classes:
Monday, 10 a.m. to noon, Pre-Deployment Workshop: a discussion concerning preparing for deployment and learning about resources available for servicemembers, DoD civilians and their family members, including before, during and after the deployment period.
Wednesday, 9 a.m. to noon, FRG Essentials: Basic FRG information for FRG leaders, volunteers and members, as well as Family Readiness Support Assistants, commanders and first sergeants.
July 20, 10 a.m. to noon, Reintegration Workshop: Preparing for the return of a loved one, or adjusting after the return, as a family; what to expect and resources to help, for Soldiers, DoD civilians, and family members.
Classes are in the ACS Classroom, Bldg. 200, Belvoir Road.

Warrant Officers
The Lord Fairfax Silver Chapter, US Army Warrant Officer Association, has its monthly membership meeting July 16 at the Kingstowne Library on at the corner of Beulah and Telegraph roads. The meeting starts at 5 p.m.

Spouse orientation
All spouses new to Fort Belvoir and the surrounding areas are invited to attend the New Spouse Orientation, Spouse Meet & Greet, from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday in George Washington Village Community Center.
People who attend can get information about Belvoir, the National Capital Region, how to use the Metro, adult education, child care/school information and more. The meetings are ideal to meet other area spouses.

Naturalization, citizenship information
Fort Belvoir and Fort Myer Army Community Services host an information session about Naturalization and Citizenship Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Belvoir's ACS, 9800 Belvoir Road, Bldg. 200.

AFTB Level I
Fort Belvoir Army Family Team Building offers a Saturday, Level I, Navigating The Military Life AFTB class, July 18. The location for the free, one-day class is 9800 Belvoir Road, Bldg. 200. The U.S. Army's Spirit of America Show is Sept. 11 and 12 at the Patriot Center. Performances are free, but people who attend must have tickets, which are available at the Community Center.

New pavilions to rent
Outdoor Recreation has two new pavilions, the Eagle and the Osprey, for rent at Tompkins Basin on the Potomac River. The introductory fee is $25 each per day, with a $50 refundable cleaning deposit.
Each 20-by-30-feet pavilion has picnic tables, a barbecue grill and volleyball nets. Volleyballs and other recreational items are available for rent at the Outdoor Recreation Center, Bldg 778.

Piano Lessons
Lessons for ages 7 to 18 are Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sessions are 30 minutes and begin July 18. The cost is $50.

Blackberries and crab?
Outdoor Recreation has a trip to the Blackberry Bonanza & Wellness Festival July 26 at Great Country Farms in Bluemount.
The $13 cost includes admission, wine-tasting and transportation. Kids 2 and younger are free.
ODR also has a trip to the Annapolis Rotary Crab Feast, Aug. 7 from 3 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets, $65, include transportation and all-you-can-eat blue crab and all-you-can-drink soda and beer.

Found items
Over the past several months, the Directorate of Emergency Services, Law Enforcement Lost and Found Property Custodian have collected several unclaimed bicycles and other items. Items are held for 90 days before they are turned over to the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office.
People who have lost any items and want to find out if they have been recovered by DES Police may contact Tim Brown, lost and found property custodian, 703-806-0146. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays through Fridays and voice mail is available after normal duty hours. Some reasonable proof of ownership is required to claim any found property.

Eastern Orthodox
The next Eastern Orthodox Divine Liturgy will be celebrated in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel in Woodlawn Chapel at 9 a.m. Wednesday on the occasion of the feast of St. Vladimir (Volodymyr) of Kyiv in what is now modern Ukraine. That saint is credited with the conversion of the people of Kyivan Rus' in the late ninth century AD to Orthodox Christianity.
VBS set, volunteers needed
Vacation Bible School is Aug. 16 to 20 in the Religious Education Center. This year's theme is Rome - Paul and the Underground Church.
People interested in helping are asked to attend a meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the REC.

Five Day Clubs
Five Day Clubs, also known as Backyard Bible Clubs, are scheduled in selected Fort Belvoir housing areas from July 20 to 24.
Sponsors are needed to sponsor the clubs in each housing area. Sponsor duties include hosting the club and distributing promotional literature. Residents interested in sponsoring a club are asked to contact Mike Webb, 703-806-4179, michael.webb13@us.army.mil.
Catholic
Fairfax Chapel is closed until further notice for renovations and repair. The 9:15 a.m. Hispanic and the 11:15 a.m. Masses will be in Barden Education Center Auditorium during renovations.
Christian yoga
Classes in Praise Moves, the Christian alternative to yoga, are at 9:30 a.m. Wednesdays and Fridays in the Religious Education Center. Everyone is invited and watchcare is provided.

Protestant Women
Protestant Women of the Chapel's main meetings are Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. in Belvoir Chapel. Free child care is available for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years.
A homeschool room is available for school-aged children. Parents are asked to bring work for the youth.
The PWOC also has two weekly evening studies Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the Religious Education Center and Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the REC Library.

Men's Bible studies

Fort Belvoir Jewish Congregation holds services every Friday evening at 8 p.m. at Belvoir Chapel and one early service a month at 7:30 p.m. This month's early service is July 24.
The group hosts the movie, "Defiance" at 1:30 Sunday in the Religious Education Center.
A Saturday service is July 25 at 9:30 a.m.
A Tisha B'Av Service is July 29 at 8:30 p.m. in Belvoir Chapel. Lights will be low and the group will read from the Book of Lamentations.

Awana?
Fort Belvoir's Protestant Community is considering starting an Awana program Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m., for youth pre-kindergarten through 6th grade.
Planners need teachers and students to make it a reality. Pre-registration is ongoing through July 24 for teachers and students. If there is enough interest, planners expect to start the class Sept. 9, and expect it to run through May.

NoVA for high-schoolers
High school and home-schooled students who are at least 16 years old may be eligible to start earning college credits at Northern Virginia Community College. Interested students should contact the Student Services Center at the nearest campus - Alexandria, Annandale, Loudoun, Manassas, Springfield and Woodbridge.

ODU
Non-degree applications are being accepted now for summer and fall classes at Old Dominion University.
ODU offers a master of science in education for active and retired Soldiers, military spouses and qualified civilians; and teaching licenses in elementary, middle and high school academic areas of math, English, social studies, and science.
Courses are conducted at Barden and online.

UMUC
University of Maryland University College is registering for classes.
UMUC is in Barden Education Center, Rooms 126 and 128.

Central Michigan University
Registration for fall classes at Central Michigan University is open Monday to July 24, for classes that begin Aug. 21 at Barden. Classes are available at six locations in the D.C metro area including at Fort Belvoir.
CMU offers a master of science in administration degree.
CMU accepts applications year round, with new classes beginning every six weeks. Classes meet on alternating weekends or weekday evenings. Degree completion is available in 18 months.

Webster University
Registration at Webster University is open for fall classes, which begin Aug. 15. The GRE/GMAT is not required for admissions.
Evening classes are conducted at Barden Education Center and additional programs are offered in the D.C. Metro area at Bolling and Andrews air force bases, and the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery.
Webster University offers five, nine-week terms each year, with some transferable credits.
Office hours are Mondays to Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Fridays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
