Army warrant officers
The Lord Fairfax Silver Chapter, US Army Warrant Officer Association has its monthly membership meeting at 5 p.m. today at the Kingstowne Library, on the corner of Beulah and Telegraph roads.

Fort Belvoir's American Red Cross Office has a pet first aid class Friday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Marine Memorial Day
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Quantico National Cemetery has its annual Memorial Day Observance on Monday at 11 a.m. on the grounds at 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, Va. The Potomac Regional Veterans Council annually sponsors the ceremony. Marine Lt. Gen. George J. Flynn is the ceremony's keynote speaker. The observance begins at 10:30 a.m., with a musical prelude by the Quantico Marine Corps Band, followed by a massing of veterans, youth and auxiliary color guards and wreath presentation.
Additionally, VA representatives will be available in the administration office before and after the observance to share information with the public about veterans' benefits.
Unique to the Quantico National Cemetery observance is the Avenue of Honor, where more than 400 flags will be flown from the main entrance gate throughout the cemetery.

International spouses
The International Spouse Group meets Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Vernondale Village Community Center, 9532 Troth Way. The group welcomes new members of foreign-born spouses. Friends and guest are welcome.
The group has resources on Army Community Service, English as a second language, citizenship, jobs, the Metro and more.

Store closed for inventory
Virginia Industries for the Blind conducts inventory at its Fort Belvoir Self Service Supply Center store May 29. Officials expect the store to be open to customers until noon. Customers will still be able to e-ail or fax orders in for processing the next day.
Other Northern Virginia locations will be open. They include:

Learn the Metro

Deployed family fun
Deployed Family Fun Day is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 30 at Burba Lake, Fort Meade, Md. Families of deployed, soon-to-be deployed, or recently returned are invited to the event, which includes free food, entertainment and resource information from each branch of service in the National Capitol Region.

Day-tripping
MWR has a trip to Atlantic City, N.J., May 30.
The trip, open to all ages, departs the Community Center at 8 a.m. and return between 10:30 and 11 p.m. The cost is $45 per person, with an $18 to $25 rebate. Sign up at the center, Bldg. 1200, Taylor Road.

Bus driver training
Fort Belvoir's Directorate of Logistics conducts bus-driver training courses through November. Students are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Course dates are: June 8 to 26; July 6 to 24; Aug. 3 to 21; Sept. 14 to Oct. 2; Oct. 13 to 30; and Nov. 5 to 25.

Boating safety
The Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 25-8 offers a boating safety class May 30, which meets the requirements established by Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. All regions finer boat operators who have no evidence of taking a boating safety class. Requirements differ by state.
The class meets at the Mount Vernon Knights of Columbus Hall, 8592 Richmond Hwy., Alexandria, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Students get a manual, a certificate, and card showing class completion.
The cost is $40/student, $60 per couple if they share the manual.

Deployment and Family Readiness Classes
The Mobilization/ Deployment and Family Readiness Program conducts monthly classes as follows:
June 4, 10:30 a.m. to noon, FRG roundtable, for all FRG leaders, unit commanders, first sergeants and FRG volunteers.
June 8 10 a.m. to noon, Pre-Deployment Class - Preparing for an upcoming deployment and learning about resources for Soldiers, DoD civilians and family members.
Classes are in the ACS Classroom, Bldg. 200, Belvoir Road.

Got talent?
Fort Belvoir's MWR and BOSS program teaming up with Fort Myer for a joint forces salute to the "Year of the NCO," with a talent showcase Aug. 22 at 4 p.m. at Belvoir's Wallace Theater.
Talented people can win cash. Eligible MWR patrons, 18 and older can share their talent at auditions at 6 p.m. June 2 and 4 at Belvoir's Community Center; or at 6 p.m. June 9 and 11 at Myer's Community Center.
The showcase includes a youth theater performance of "Beauty is a Beast". Youth auditions for this show are June 6 and 13 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Fort Belvoir Youth Center. Youth auditions are open to those in grades 6 to 12.

Comedy night
A Night of Laughs, featuring Mike Brooks, Dave Carter and Jim Pate, is June 5 at the Fort Belvoir Community Center. Doors open at 8 p.m. and show time is at 9 p.m.

New York City excursion
MWR's Information, Ticketing, and Registration has a day trip to New York City June 20 for $45. People can take in a show, sight see or shop at their leisure. The bus leaves from the Community Center at 8 a.m. and returns late in the evening.

Arts and crafts contest
The deadline to enter projects into the 2009 Arts and Crafts Contest is June 30. Artists can compete for cash against the best artists and artisans in the Army with their best 2D and 3D artwork.

Army Birthday Ball
The Army Birthday Ball is June 13 in Washington, D.C. Registration is available through Army Knowledge Online, which also includes event location, times and additional information.
Tickets are $85 per person and 150 discount tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis for E1 through E6 and GS1 through GS7. Registration is only available through AKO. People with no AKO account will have to get sponsorship from someone who has one or attend as a guest of someone who attends.

Bunco!
Anyone 18 and older is welcome to join the fun of the Army MWR promotion, "It's Bunco Time."
The dice game is easy to learn and play and beginners are welcome. Prizes include gift cards and prizes.
The next date at Belvoir is Wednesday, Entertainment Night.
Games begin at 5 p.m. at the Community Center and food and drinks will be available to buy.

Personal, professional growth
AFTB Level II, Personal and Professional Growth, is June 9 to 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Class location is 9800 Belvoir Road, Bldg. 200.
Child care will be provided, with a registration deadline of May 29.
Children must be registered with Child, Youth and School services before the class.

DLA Toastmasters
Toastmasters International club is designed to improve people's verbal and written communication skills and presentations. The club also enhances skills in listening, evaluation, leadership and mentoring.
The DLA Toastmasters Club 3772 meets Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Conference Room 3501 in the Andrew T. McNamara Headquarters Complex. Guests are welcome.

Religion

Contracts
The Fort Belvoir's Chaplain Office has the following Non-Appropriated contracts available if there are no suitable volunteers. The contract period is from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30, 2010.
Positions are: Catholic, Jewish and Protestant parish coordinators; Protestant youth leader; Protestant, Gospel and Catholic musicians, gospel event planner; Protestant, Gospel and Catholic choir directors; Catholic director of music and liturgy; Protestant and Catholic bass, alto, tenor, and soprano section leaders; Watch Care coordinator, and wedding coordinator.
Performance Work Statements are available at Belvoir and Woodlawn chapels through Tuesday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
All prospective bids or request for volunteering are due by 4:30 Tuesday.
Resumes are welcomed. Interviews will be scheduled, if needed.

Five Day Clubs help needed
Five-Day Clubs, or Backyard Bible Clubs, are scheduled in selected housing areas on Fort Belvoir from July 20 to 24. High School-age youth are needed to be missionaries to lead and teach the clubs. Missionaries are required to complete a one-day training in Vienna, Va., in May; and a one-week training in Richmond, Va., in June. Also, sponsors are needed to sponsor the clubs in each housing area. Sponsors' duties include hosting and distributing promotional material.

Pianist wanted
The Fort Belvoir's Garrison Chaplain Office is looking for a pianist for the 8 a.m. Protestant worship service.

Catholic
Fairfax Chapel is closed until further notice for renovations and repair. The 9:15 a.m. Hispanic and the 11:15 a.m. Masses will be in Barden Education Center Auditorium during renovations.

Jewish
Fort Belvoir Jewish Congregation's next Friday night service is at 7 p.m. Friday at Belvoir Chapel.
A Morning Service is Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Belvoir Chapel, followed by a kids service at 10:30 a.m.
Shavuot Service is May 29 at 8 p.m., to celebrate Moses coming down from Mount Sinai with the Ten Commandments. Dairy goodies follow the service.
An afternoon movie is at 1 p.m. May 31, when "Boy in the Striped Pajamas" plays at Belvoir Social Hall.
The congregation is looking for all Jewish Soldiers and families new to Belvoir.

Barden Education Center
Park University
Park University offers undergraduate programs and associate degrees.
Registration is open for summer classes begin Tuesday for onsite and June 1 for internet courses. Registration is open.

ODU
Military Career Transition Program's Master of Science in Education summer classes at Old Dominion University begin Monday. The second summer session begins June 19. Non-degree applications are being accepted now for summer and fall classes. Non-degree students become degree-seeking after beginning the program.
The Master of Science in Education is an initial licensure program that transfers to 44 states and DoD schools around the world. Licensure is offered in elementary, middle school and high school. Active/retired military, military spouses and qualified civilians are eligible for the program.
Personnel who transfer before completing the program locally can finish their program by taking online or video streamed courses.

UMUC
University of Maryland University College is registering for summer classes.
UMUC is in Barden Education Center, Rooms 126 and 128.
Office hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Fridays, 9 a.m. to noon.

Central Michigan University
CMU Summer I classes begin Friday, and Summer II classes begin July 7. Classes are available at six locations in the D.C metro area, including Belvoir.
CMU accepts applications year round. Classes are conducted on alternating weekends or weekday evenings. New classes begin every six weeks. Degree completion is available in 18 months or less.

Webster University
Registration at Webster University is open for summer, with classes beginning June 1; and fall, which begins Aug. 15. The GRE/GMAT is not required for admissions.
Evening classes are conducted at Barden Education Center and additional programs are offered in the D.C. Metro area at Bolling and Andrews air force bases, and the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery.
Webster University offers five, nine-week terms each year, with some transferable credits.
Office hours are Mondays to Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Fridays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
