For two and a half years, Joyce Cayli and her team of professional beauticians at ROY Spa have been providing services to Soldiers and their families at Fort Belvoir.

Cayli, a recipient of the Heritage Institute of Who's Who for Salon and Beauty Care, has been in the spa industry for about 15 years. She began her career while working in the medical field as a nurse and an administrator to a surgical group.

It was from the education she received in that field that led her to her true passion, the spa industry.

Today, ROY Spa provides customers with numerous beauty care services including hairstyling, nail care, massages, skin care, body treatments, make up and much more.

"We have had success as a salon with what we offer and the salon still has to run on a day-to-day basis to remain stable financially," Cayli said. "But, I want to take it further and give something back to
someone who deserves it."

Recently, Cayli spoke at a Warrior in Transition Unit town hall meeting and told the Soldiers and their families they are now considered VIPs at the spa.

"Being a VIP client here enables them to get any service at a discounted price and we even offer those prices for their family members," Cayli said. "I also told them the importance of massage therapy and how it helps with stress and depression.

"After that, we have had a good number of them come through. I think it provides them with a escape and it provides them with a little space," Cayli said. "I just did my first facial on a Soldier the other day and I think it was a very positive experience for her."

In addition to helping the WTU, Cayli and one of her colleagues have developed a non-profit organization with the goal of training others in appearance restoration.

"We want to train people in this make up style to help people hide imperfections they may have received in accidents or from war," Cayli said. "Our ultimate goal would be to travel to other military bases [which] may have a burn units to train their staffs so they can provide this option to ... Soldier[s] if they want it."

Cayli is also an active participant in numerous local community and charity events including Nurse's Week at DeWitt Army Hospital, My Sister's Place program for Abused Women and Spouses of Deployed Military. She recently provided services at the Military Spouse Appreciation Day at Army Community Service.

Cayli attributes most of her success and takes great pride in her staff at ROY Spa.

"I am very selective of who I hire," Cayli said. "All my hairdressers are what are considered to be master hairstylists and our massage therapists are the best and are nationally certified."
Recently, Cayli and one of her hairdressers were asked to come to California and featured in a national bridal magazine cover shoot.

"I think it is kind of impressive that we are on a military base and we can offer that level of service to our clients," Cayli said.

ROY Spa is at the corner of 12th street and Gunston Road in the Village Commons Town Center.
