Northern Virginia Community College
Registration is open for summer sessions. A 12-week session runs from May 17 to Aug. 9 NOVA also offers two, six-week sessions during the summer, which begin May 17 and June 29. Classes are open to everyone. NOVA has distance learning, hybrid classes and flexible schedules.

Students who register early can lock in their classes without paying tuition until April 30. Beginning then, tuition is due by 5 p.m. on the business day after enrolling.

College students home for the summer can earn NOVA credits that transfer to their four-year college. NOVA is a participating school in the Military Spouse Tuition Assistance (MyCAA) program.

Campuses in Alexandria, Annandale, Loudoun, Manassas, Springfield and Woodbridge.

Many students qualify for financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, loans and work study.

Free financial aid workshops
The Woodbridge Campus of Northern Virginia Community College has two free workshops to help students apply for college financial aid.

Participants will learn how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and get various forms of financial aid. Anyone interested in attending college is encouraged to attend. High school seniors, parents and guardians are welcome.

Workshops are scheduled April 10 and May 8, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Refreshments will be provided and free parking is available in Lot B, student parking.

NOVA's Woodbridge Campus is at 15200 Neabsco Mills Road, off I-95 at Exit 156.

Webster U
Webster University's registration is open for its Summer 2010 term, with classes from May 29 to July 31.

Evening classes in procurement and acquisitions management; business and organizational security management and Masters of Business Administration. Additional programs are offered in the D.C. metro area at Bolling and Andrews Air Force bases and the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery. Up to 15 credit hours may be transferable from military schools and other universities.

Webster offers five, nine-week terms per year.

Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Fridays, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Park University

University of Maryland University College
• Personal Financial Management, Information Systems in Organizations, Advanced Technical Writing; Intro to Homeland Security; Human Resource Management; Contemporary Political History of Afghanistan.

Registering for Spring 2010 term. Classes weeknights or weekends.

Classes at Belvoir, face-to-face, online and hybrid courses at a variety of civilian sites and military installations throughout the D.C. Metro Area.

Central Michigan University
• Master of Science in Administration. Concentrations available in human resources; information resource management; public administration; general administration, leadership and health services administration.

Accepts applications year round. Classes meet on alternating weekends or weekday evenings. New classes begin every six weeks. Degree completion available 18 months or less.

Teaching as a second career
Troops to Teachers has a seminar, "Teaching as a Second Career," May 12 at 12:30 p.m., in Room 144 of Barden Education Center, 9625 Belvoir Road.

Troops to Teachers pays up to $10,000 in stipends and bonuses for people in the program.

Troops to Teachers is an ideal program for servicemembers considering teaching as a second career. A representative from Old Dominion University will explain the program and answer any questions regarding ODU's Master of Science in Education with full teaching licensure.

It is available to active and retired military, spouses and qualified civilians. Teaching licensures are offered for elementary, middle and high school. Courses are conducted at Barden Center and online.

ODU
Non-degree applications are being accepted now for the first Summer 2010 session with Old Dominion University and will soon be accepted for the second Summer 2010 and Fall 2010 semesters.
