• What is your position at Fort Belvoir?
I'm air program manager for the Directorate of Public Works
• How long have you been working here?
I've been at Belvoir since April 2004.
• Where are you from
originally?
I'm a native of Spring Grove, Pa.
• What are some of your job responsibilities?
With a focus on outdoor air quality, I make sure we stay in compliance with the Clean Air Act, as well as any other state and federal regulations. I also follow up on whatever permits are issued for work and track data in regards to field maintenance, fuel usage and hours of operation at a facility.
• What do you enjoy most about your work?
I have a bachelor's degree in physics and I'm a scientific person by nature; so, I find what I do interesting. I also enjoy the interaction I have with Soldiers, contractors and civilian employees.
• What challenges do face with your work?
Collecting information and creating general awareness about air-quality issues are challenging. Like anywhere else, we also have to deal with a turnover of employees. That's a challenge because you have to explain why things are done the way they are to a new group of people.
• What are some of your
hobbies?
I have a 10-month old show dog named Cajun. He's a clumber spaniel, which is a rare breed for a dog. I enjoy doing shows with him. That keeps me busy. I also enjoy traveling, reading and watching movies.
• Do you have a favorite Fort Belvoir memory?
I was nominated by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency for my work in obtaining all the necessary air permits for their new facility. It was a pleasant surprise and it felt good to be acknowledged for the work I do.
Editor's note: Lease recently received an NGA Star Partner Award for her work to obtain an air permit for the Fort Belvoir North Area, a waiver for the use of one fuel source for both the boilers and the generators, and an approved sampling protocol.
