FCC providers needed
The Fort Belvoir Family Child Care program is seeking candidates to become FCC providers on-post. Please stop by the FCC office located in building 950 to fill out an application or call 703-805-9137/9134/9132 for information.

Change of Charter
The Product Manager-Force Protection Systems will hold a Change of Charter Ceremony at Woodlawn Chapel on July 9. Lt. Col. James K. Choung, who assumed his current position as the PM-FPS on June 8, 2007, will relinquish command to Lt. Col. Christopher J. Lackovic in a formal ceremony scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

Bookmobile schedule
Schedule for Community Centers for July (including July 5): 20 Minute Story Time-ages Preschool-3rd Grade After Story time check out a book (Check out Pre-K through 6th grade): Mondays: 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Lewis Village, 11 to 11:45 a.m. at George Washington; Wednesdays: 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Vernondale, 11 to 11:45 a.m. at Faifax Village.

Book check out only for pre-K to sixth grade: Woodlawn Village stops will be on Mondays from noon to 12:45 p.m.; noon to 12:20 p.m.for Gristmill and 12:25 to 12:45 p.m. for Orchard.

Show and Shine Car and Bike Show
Fort Belvoir's 2nd Annual Show & Shine Car Show takes place on July 17 at P2 Field (Fremont Parade Field along Route 1 - North Post at the intersection of Goethals and Constitution roads) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Enjoy food, games, music, and family fun for all! Free activities for kids in the housing areas
Outreach staff from Child, Youth & School Services offers enrichment activities at the housing community centers. All activities are free. Children and youth must be accompanied by an adult. Activities are held from 10 a.m. to noon.

Whitewater rafting at Harper's Ferry
Join Outdoor Recreation and River & Trail Outfitters on the final stretches of the Shenandoah River as it tumbles into the Potomac, carving a 6.5-mile watercourse through the Blue Ridge Mountains. Travel on these two rivers through three states (Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia) on a 4.5 hour guided whitewater rafting trip.

You'll go through class I-III whitewater, made up of some mellow water, permitting splashing and floating, multiple riffles and ledges, and challenging rapids such as "Bull Falls" and "White Horse." The trips are July 10 and Aug. 14.

The cost is $74 per person and includes transportation, picnic lunch, rafting guide, and all equipment. Departure from ODR is 6:45 a.m. and return is at 5 p.m. Sign up at least 1 week before the event. Note: No Refunds For more information, call Outdoor Recreation at 703-805-1226.

Mount Vernon Genealogical Society
On July 20, the Mount Vernon Genealogical Society will meet in room 112 of the Hollin Hall Senior Center in Alexandria. Va., July 20 at 1 p.m. The meeting is free and open to the public. The meeting will feature a presentation entitled "Using the Mount Vernon Family History Center," presented by Ray A. Letteer.

Letteer serves as a family history consultant for his local congregation. He is also the senior information assurance official for the U.S. Marine Corps.

The Hollin Hall Senior Center is four miles south of Alexandria just off Fort Hunt Road at 1500 Shenandoah Road in Alexandria.

Book seeks submissions from military nurses
If you are a military nurse, The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, wants to know how you would complete this sentence:

STTI will publish a book filled with responses from nurses in all branches of the military service this fall. Simply visit militarynursebook.org and submit an answer in 500 words or less.

Day trip to the Big Apple
The Community Center wants to take you on a trip to New York City on July 24 for $45. Spend a fun-filled day in fabulous New York City for shopping on upscale Madison Avenue, taking in a show on Broadway or wandering the city streets. Movies on the Lawn series
Come out for an evening of free entertainment and activities. Fort Belvoir DFMWR has partnered with the USO to bring the Movies on the Lawn series back to Fort Belvoir. They can all be seen at the Fort Belvoir amphitheater located on the corner of Gunston and Abbot roads.

The events include live entertainment, youth activities made possible by CYSS and snacks thanks to the USO. The entertainment kicks off at 6 p.m. and the movie starts after sundown. The next movie, July 9, is "Astro Boy" with entertainment by USA Express and the Michael King Experience. All events are subject to cancellation due to weather. Functional Training Program
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, beginning July 19, 5:30 to 6:30 a.m. or 6:30 to 7:30 a.m.

This is a program for developing operational fitness for military personnel. Sixty-minute sessions are designed to improve mobility, strength and energy and to exceed the standard military fitness program. Sport Fishing on the Chesapeake Bay
Join Outdoor Recreation for a day of Chesapeake Bay Sport fishing. Cost is $91 per person and includes transportation, 8-hour fishing charter, rods, fishing bait, fishing license, tackle, coolers on board, and ice to keep your catch cold while on the boat. 2010 Arts and Crafts Contest

Legal Assistance Office closed for July 4
The Fort Belvoir Legal Assistance Office will be closed on July 2 and July 5 in observance of the Fourth of July holiday. The office will reopen July 6.

Community yard sales
The Villages at Belvoir Yard Sales are one weekend a month through October. All residents of The Villages at Belvoir can sell. However, anyone can stop by and make purchases.

Scheduled yard sales this year are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days. Residents can only sell during yard sale dates announced and authorized by The Villages at Belvoir, unless otherwise authorized by community management offices.

Upcoming 2010 yard sale dates, weather permitting, are: July 17 and 18; Aug. 14 and 15; Sept. 18 and 19; and Oct. 16 and 17.

6th Annual National Veteran Small Business Conference
Department of Defense organizations and other Federal Agencies will co-sponsor The 6th Annual National Veteran Small Business Conference, which will take place at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, July 19-22. Hershey Amusement Park
Civilian Employee Fund Council is sponsoring a one day trip on Aug. 21 to Hershey Amusement Park. Trip includes admission to the park, a meal voucher for lunch at the park's food stands, and round trip bus fare.

This trip is open to Fort Belvoir DoD civilians and up to four guests on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost is $40 per person. No credit cards accepted and no refunds.

The bus leaves the Community Center at 7 a.m. and returns around midnight.
