"We are very proud to bring this great benefit and the tremendous savings it offers to all authorized commissary shoppers in the greater Charlottesville area," said Tony Matthias, store director at the Fort Belvoir, commissary. The commissary and the National Ground Intelligence Center near Charlottesville sponsor the sale.

Commissaries, operated by the Defense Commissary Agency, provide groceries to military personnel, retirees and their families at U.S. military installations around the world. DeCA has expanded its reach to Guard and Reserve members in particular by bringing case lot sales to areas with military populations not served by a nearby commissary.

In order to shop, customers must present an appropriate DoD ID card that authorizes commissary privileges. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted for payment, but not debit cards.
