50th Anniversary Tattoo
Join the United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps for an evening of music June 19 in Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall's historic Conmy Hall. Celebrate the The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps' five decades of service to the U.S. Army and the Nation with performances by the U. S. Military Academy Band "Hellcats," the Fifes and Drums of Colonial Williamsburg, "The Commandants Own" U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, City of Washington Pipe Band, and more.

Belvoir Commissary to close for renovations
The Fort Belvoir Commissary will close from 5 p.m. June 27 for more than two days while it undergoes a complete store product reset, as part of the Defense Commissary Agency's ongoing effort to enhance the shopping experience. The commissary will re-open on June 30 for normal business.

June Meeting of the Military Leadership Diversity Commission
On June 16-17, the Military Leadership Diversity Commission will host its ninth public meeting at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner. The purpose of the meeting is for the 26 commissioners of the MLDC to continue their efforts to address congressional concerns as related to the promotion and advancement of minority members of the armed forces, including minority members who are senior officers.

Admiral Gary Roughead, Chief of Naval Operations, as well as General George W. Casey, Jr., Chief of Staff of the Army will speak June 16; Dr. Frank Dobbin, Professor of Sociology at Harvard University will speak June 17.

All members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend the two-day meeting session and provide comments at the end of day two. Woodlawn Village celebration
On June 26, The Villages at Belvoir hosts free family fun for residents, "Transforming Homes, Redefining Community." The celebration begins at 4 p.m. in Woodlawn Village and includes a barbecue, a rock-climbing wall, mechanical bull, obstacle course, tree-house slide and fun house.

The event also features a Screen on the Green outdoor movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, beginning at dusk.

Model homes, including renovated four- and five-bedroom units, will be open for tours.

The event celebrates the end of 18 months of work and planning between the Army and the partnership that led to Woodlawn Village homes' renovations. While the event is targeted to Woodlawn residents, it is open to all.

Lord Fairfax Silver Chapter luncheon
The Lord Fairfax Silver Chapter, U.S. Army Warrant Officer Association will hold a Warrant Officer Luncheon/ PD on June 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Mosby Reserve Center. Mount Vernon Genealogical Society
The Mount Vernon Genealogical Society will meet in room 112 of the Hollin Hall Senior Center in Alexandria, Va., June 15. The meeting will start at 1 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The meeting will feature a presentation entitled "Unsere Ahnen: An Overview of German Genealogical Research." The program will be presented by Susannah E. Brooks.

The Hollin Hall Senior Center is located 4 miles south of Alexandria just off Fort Hunt Road at 1500 Shenandoah Road.

"Contacts-4-Contracts" breakfast
Learn about opportunities to contract with the Federal government at "Contacts-for-Contracts," with former Congressman Tom Davis speaking on "The Dos & Don'ts of Government Contracting," sponsored by the Government Procurement Relations Committee of the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce.

This informative breakfast will be June 24 at 7:30 am at the Belle Haven Country Club, 6023 Fort Hunt Road, Alexandria, VA 22307. Cost is $25 for members of the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce, and $35 for guests.

Atlantic City Trip
Join us on June 26 for a getaway to Atlantic City, New Jersey. Cost is $45 per person and is open to all ages. Bus leaves from the Fort Belvoir Community Center at 8 a.m. and returns between 10:30 and 11 p.m. Receive an $18 to $20 rebate upon arrival in Atlantic City. Thirty guests are needed in order for the trip to go.Guests must be 21 or older to receive a rebate check from the casino. Army Birthday Ball
Celebrate 235 Years Strong at this year's Army Birthday Ball at the Gaylord National Hotel & Convention Center, National Harbor, Md., June 12. All tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so register early for an evening of dining, dancing and entertainment featuring country music star Trace Adkins! The event is open to all active duty, National Guard, Reserve, Department of the Army Civilians, Army government contractors, family members, retirees, veterans and invited guests.

Tickets cost $87 per person. A limited number of discounted tickets are available to E-5/E-6 (and GS/NSPS equivalent) at $20 per person, and E4 and below (and GS/NSPS equivalent) at $15 per person.

AFTB Community Outreach
Fort Belvoir Army Family Team Building has partnered with the Fairfax County Family Nutrition Program as part of our Community Outreach to the Fort Belvoir Military Community. This class will be held on June 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Vernondale Community Center located at 9532 Troth Way. Please come out and bring a friend to see cooking demonstration full of helpful information and tips given by Family Nutrition Specialist Saroj Khurana. Community yard sales
The Villages at Belvoir Yard Sales are one weekend a month through October. All residents of The Villages at Belvoir can sell. However, anyone can stop by and make purchases.

Scheduled yard sales this year are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days. Residents can only sell during yard sale dates announced and authorized by The Villages at Belvoir, unless otherwise authorized by community management offices.

Upcoming 2010 yard sale dates, weather permitting, are: June 19 and 20; July 17 and 18; Aug. 14 and 15; Sept. 18 and 19; and Oct. 16 and 17.

Washington Metro Investment Club
The Washington Metro Investment Club (WMIC) is having an open house meeting on June 19 at the McCourt Building off Prince William Parkway. The meeting will start at 4 p.m. WMIC meets once a month to discuss investments in the Stock Market and is a member of National Association of Investment Corps (NAIC). A fun, easy-to-use tree identification booklet is available from the nonprofit Arbor Day Foundation. The booklet, What Tree Is That?, helps people identify trees in a simple, step-by-step process.

The Arbor Day Foundation offers this booklet to help people identify trees in Virginia and throughout the Eastern and Central regions of the United States.

Wilderness Challenge 2010
Are you ready for a challenge? Wilderness Challenge 2010 Oct. 7-9 in Fayetteville, W.Va., will include a whitewater raft race, an 8K run, a mountain bike race, a mountain hike race, and a Duckie Race (combination of raft, canoe and kayak). Active duty military are eligible to participate. Teams consist of four people, a captain and three supporting members. At least one of the members must be female. NERO will pay the $700 team registration fee for a limited number of garrison teams. Travel, meals, and lodging costs are at the participant's expense.
