FCC Providers Needed

Freedom Fest 2010
Celebrate Independence Day with Fort Belvoir at Freedom Fest! Come enjoy July 4th with us as we present live music, food and cold beverages, vendors, and of course fireworks from 5 to 10 p.m. 3-D glasses for fireworks viewing will be given out while they last. Cardboard Regatta
Come to the design meeting on June 26 at noon, at Pool #1 (Bldg. 259) on South Post (18th Street). The Regatta Event is July 24 at 9 a.m., at Pool #1.

White water rafting at Harper's Ferry
Join Outdoor Recreation and River & Trail Outfitters on the final stretches of the Shenandoah River as it tumbles into the Potomac, carving a spectacular 6.5-mile watercourse through the Blue Ridge Mountains. Travel on these two rivers through three states (Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia) on a 4.5 hour guided whitewater rafting trip. You'll go through class I-III whitewater, made up of some mellow water, permitting splashing and floating, multiple riffles and ledges, and challenging rapids such as "Bull Falls" and "White Horse." The trips are July 10 and Aug. 14. The cost is $74 per person and includes transportation, picnic lunch, rafting guide, and all equipment. Honoring Korean War veterans
On June 25, 60 years to the day after the start of the Korean War, there will be a solemn memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at the Korean War Veterans Memorial led by the Korean Embassy. The program, which will take place on a specially built stage next to the Korean War Veterans Memorial, not far from the Lincoln Memorial, will be filled with thrilling and heart-melting moments to cheer America's veterans and celebrate the enduring Korean-American friendship. After this, the focus will shift to a nearby stage, where the program will begin at 10:45 a.m. with a military band, a chorus, and several speakers.

Then the Little Angels will perform. Their appearance in Washington is part of the beginning of a 16-nation global tour.

2010 Arts and Crafts Contest
Compete for cash prizes against the best artists and artisans in the Army. Just enter your best 2D or 3D artwork in the annual US Army Arts and Crafts Contest. Town hall meeting
Col. Jerry Blixt, Commander of U.S. Army Garrison Fort Belvoir, hosts a Town Hall meeting for all military and civilian personnel working or living on Belvoir. The purpose of the meetings are to provide information about BRAC-related plans and projects; planned and ongoing construction, including work on roads; and, other topics of interest, such as the Installation Management Command's recently released "Campaign Plan."

The session will include a question-and-answer period.

The hour-long meeting is at 1 p.m. June 29, Wood Theater, North Post.

Pharmacy closure
The Post Exchange Pharmacy is closed until June 25 for remodeling. Refills called in to the PX Pharmacy during this week will be ready for pick up on June 28. Patients who need their medication before June 28 can visit the main pharmacy at DeWitt Army Community Hospital to pick up prescription refills.

Legal Assistance Office closed for July 4
The Fort Belvoir Legal Assistance Office will be closed on July 2 and July 5 in observance of the Fourth of July holiday. The office will reopen July 6.

Woodlawn Village celebration
On June 26, The Villages at Belvoir hosts free family fun for residents, "Transforming Homes, Redefining Community." The celebration begins at 4 p.m. in Woodlawn Village and includes a barbecue, a rock-climbing wall, mechanical bull, obstacle course, tree-house slide and fun house.

The event also features a Screen on the Green outdoor movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, beginning at dusk.

Model homes, including renovated four- and five-bedroom units, will be open for tours.

The event celebrates the end of 18 months of work and planning between the Army and the partnership that led to Woodlawn Village homes' renovations. While the event is targeted to Woodlawn residents, it is open to all.

"Contacts-4-Contracts" breakfast
Learn about opportunities to contract with the Federal government at "Contacts-for-Contracts," with former Congressman Tom Davis speaking on "The Dos & Don'ts of Government Contracting," sponsored by the Government Procurement Relations Committee of the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce.

This informative breakfast will be June 24 at 7:30 am at the Belle Haven Country Club, 6023 Fort Hunt Road, Alexandria, VA 22307. Cost is $25 for members of the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce, and $35 for guests.

Prime contractors who are Chamber members will discuss available subcontracting opportunities. "Contacts-4-Contracts" is sponsored by Inkwell Duck, Portal Dynamics, VSE Corp., and Wymond Associates.

Community yard sales
The Villages at Belvoir Yard Sales are one weekend a month through October. All residents of The Villages at Belvoir can sell. However, anyone can stop by and make purchases.
Scheduled yard sales this year are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days. Residents can only sell during yard sale dates announced and authorized by The Villages at Belvoir, unless otherwise authorized by community management offices.

Upcoming 2010 yard sale dates, weather permitting, are: July 17 and 18; Aug. 14 and 15; Sept. 18 and 19; and Oct. 16 and 17.

Free activities for kids in the housing areas
The outreach staff from Child, Youth & School Services offers enrichment activities at the housing community centers. All activities are free. Children and youth must be accompanied by an adult. Activities are held from 10 a.m. to noon.

6th Annual National Veteran Small Business Conference
Department of Defense organizations and other Federal Agencies will co-sponsor The 6th Annual National Veteran Small Business Conference, which will take place at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, July 19-22. This event, which is hosted annually by The Veteran Small Business Interagency Council has continued to provide opportunities for Veteran-Owned and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business owners to network and to gain valuable knowledge in the world of Federal contracting, while at the same providing Department of Defense (DoD) and non-DoD Federal Agencies the opportunity to work towards improving their contracting goals.

Family campouts
Next Campout is June 26-27, 10 a.m. Saturday to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Families are invited to pitch their tents on the spacious field next to the Outdoor Recreation Building at Tompkins Basin and sleep under the starts! Family-fun daytime and evening activities are planned throughout the weekend, including cooking s'mores over the campfire. Price is $5.00 per person and includes a tent space, fishing equipment, scavenger hunt, sporting equipment and S'mores goodies. Toastmasters
Toastmasters Club meets at the Barden Education Center every second and fourth Thursday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Toastmasters provides a way for its members to improve their public speaking and leadership abilities.

S1 conference postponed
The Fort Belvoir Directorate Human Resources, Military Personnel Division S1 Conference scheduled for June 29-July 1 has been postponed.

"Joseph and the Psalms of David" trip
Please join the Civilian Employee Fund Council Sept. 11 for a trip to Lancaster, Pa. to see "Joseph and Psalms of David." It also includes dinner at theGood and Plenty Family Restaurant.

Hershey Amusement Park
Civilian Employee Fund Council is sponsoring a one day trip on Aug. 21 to Hershey Amusement Park. Trip includes admission to the park, a meal voucher for lunch at the park's food stands, and round trip bus fare.

This trip is open to Fort Belvoir DoD civilians and up to four guests on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost is $40 per person. No credit cards accepted and no refunds.

The bus leaves the Community Center at 7 a.m. and returns around midnight.

SHAPE Officers Association
If you are an active duty or retired officer or civilian equivalent and served at SHAPE, its subordinate commands or NATO, you are invited to join the SHAPE Officers Association (SOA). The U.S. Chapter of SOA holds frequent luncheons and hosts guest speakers in the D.C. area. We hold golf outings and an annual formal dinner. Wilderness Challenge 2010
Are you ready for a challenge? Wilderness Challenge 2010 Oct. 7-9 in Fayetteville, W.Va., will include a whitewater raft race, an 8K run, a mountain bike race, a mountain hike race, and a Duckie Race (combination of raft, canoe and kayak). Active duty military are eligible to participate. Teams consist of four people, a captain and three supporting members. At least one of the members must be female. NERO will pay the $700 team registration fee for a limited number of garrison teams. Travel, meals, and lodging costs are at the participant's expense.

Volunteers are needed

2010 Intramural Golf
