CDC parents
Parents of children attending the North Post CDC, the Parent Advisory Committee, have their monthly meeting today at 5 p.m. Information is available from the CDC's front desk, 703-806-6540.
Skiing and snowboarding
Outdoor Recreation visits Liberty Mountain Resort, Pa., for a day of skiing, snowboarding or tubing or ski and snowboarding lessons, Saturday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Loading starts at ODR, Bldg. 778, at 5:30 a.m. ODR also has ski and snowboarding equipment, including snowsuits, to rent; and lift tickets at its front desk.
Round-trip transportation is $10 per person.

Belvoir Officers Wives
The Belvoir Officers' Wives' Club has a luncheon Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Mount Vernon Room of Fort Belvoir Officers' Club, with a Paddy's Day celebration.
The "McGrath Academy of Irish Dance" will provide entertainment.

South Post golf memories?
Fort Belvoir is seeking help from the local community in commemorating the history of the South Post Golf Course. The Cultural Resources staff wants photographs and scorecards related to the golf course. Materials will be used to help create a multimedia project that will highlight the history of the golf course at Fort Belvoir.

Advanced geospatial-intelligence certificate
The Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, has its 30th offering of the Advanced Geospatial-Intelligence IR/SAR Certificate Program. Classes begin at Wright-Patterson March 29. Previous offerings have been at Fort Belvoir; Las Cruces, N.M.; and at Wright-Patt.
The Advanced Certificate Program is a 10-week educational series in the technical aspects of collecting, processing, and exploiting non-literal, remotely sensed infrared and synthetic aperture radar intelligence data. The ACP provides the scientific basis underlying advanced geospatial intelligence technologies, introduces students to the capabilities of current AGI collection systems and exploitation tools, and highlights the unique contributions that AGI provides to intelligence production.
Classes run through June 4. NGA funds tuition and fees for up to 20 students in each class. The ACP is open to civilian and military personnel from across the U.S. intelligence community, DoD and supporting elements.

Managers and Supervisors
Fort Belvoir managers and supervisors can be a part of a venture which helps the youth of the Belvoir's military community get real-world work experience.
The Child, Youth and School Services Youth Center has an apprenticeship program that provides a cash award to youth for completing the program.
All employers need to do is be willing to have a youth paired with an employee who will act as a mentor and provide an opportunity for them to learn about the work world and gain experience at a work site.

Book club for adults

ACS Instructor Trainer Course
Army Community Service offers the new ACS Instructor Training Course March 15 to 18, at Belvoir's ACS, 9800 Belvoir Road, Bldg. 200. People who attend this newly designed course can learn about the adult learning process, classroom management, a variety of instruction methods, and many other tools to prepare them to become a certified ACS instructor.

Toastmasters
Toastmasters International club is designed to improve people's verbal and written communication skills and presentations. The club also enhances confidence and skills in listening, evaluation, leadership, presentation, motivational and persuasive speech and mentoring.
The McNamara HQC Toastmasters Club 3772, formerly the DLA Toastmasters, meets Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Kabeiseman Room, Room 4419 in the Andrew T. McNamara Headquarters Complex to celebrate the two groups combining into one. Guests are welcome. People who attend can see a demonstration of what the group's regular meetings entail.
The group meets Tuesdays in Room 3501 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Relocation Readiness Program provides relocation counseling, a lending closet and other services. Military Homefront is the official DoD Web site for reliable, quality-of-life information designed to help troops and their families.

Hearts Apart support group
Is your sponsor deployed, TDY or serving an unaccompanied tour? Hearts Apart offers support for waiting families by linking them with other families who are geographically separated due to sponsors' mission requirements.
Army Community Service/Family Programs provide a supportive group setting and opportunities to learn about available resources.
Hearts Apart meetings are on the third Thursday of each month at ACS, 9800 Belvoir Road, Bldg. 200, from 6 to 8 p.m. Free child care is provided with advance notice.

English as a Second Language

Book Fair Diner: All You Can Read
All Fort Belvoir families are invited to the Scholastic Book Fair from March 15 to March 19 at Fort Belvoir Elementary School stage from 9:20 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event closes on March 17 at noon and at 3 p.m. March 19.
Parents may want to bring their cameras on the event's Family Night, March 18, from 4 to 7 p.m., for pictures with Curious George.
Book fairs connect students with affordable books and makes reading a positive experience. Additionally, people who attend can help build classroom libraries by buying gift certificates or books from teachers' classroom wish lists.

NCO Mentorship Program
Fort Belvoir's NCO Mentorship Program is a week-long course geared toward preparing junior NCOs and lower-enlisted Soldiers for leadership positions and NCO Education System schools. It is scheduled from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 29 to April 2 in Barden Education Center, followed by a graduation ceremony at Wood Theater to reward the Leadership Award recipient and high PT scorer.
The class is open to E-3 through E-6 trying to prepare for Warrior Leader Course or Basic NCO Course, or trying to improve his or her leadership skills by becoming better informed about all areas of military leadership.

Enrichment in housing
Staff from Child, Youth & School Services offer free enrichment activities at the housing community centers. Children and youth must be accompanied by an adult. Activities are from 10 a.m. to noon.

Spring gala
The Washington, D.C. Chapter of the ROCKS, Inc., hosts its 36th Annual Spring Gala April 3 at 6 p.m. at the Fort Belvoir Officers' Club. Military leaders and ROTC Cadets from across the nation will be recognized for their outstanding achievement and contributions. Founded in 1974, The ROCKS, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides scholarships, mentorship and professional development to ROTC and Military Academy Cadets, active duty and reserve component officers, and retired and former active or reserve component officers.

Employment readiness
Army Community Service's Employment Readiness Program has Department of Homeland Security Job Fair March 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Community Center. The event is a reschedule from Feb. 26. The job fair includes recruiting for a variety of positions that prior military may be eligible for, with on-the-spot job offers.
A JobZone Job Fair is March 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Community Center.
Information on Federal Résumé Preparation/KSA's is presented March 11 from 10 a.m. to noon.
An ADECCO Recruiting Session is March 15 and a Kelly Recruiting Session is March 18.
A Teen Employment Workshop is March 31 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Employment Program Orientations are Tuesdays from 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. The events include an overview of local employment, including federal jobs, résumé help and registration for job-skill training classes.

ACAP

People who are thinking about separating or retiring from U.S. military service within the next year can begin planning their Individual Transition Plan by visiting the ACAP Center at Belvoir, Bldg. 1017, Room 158.

You must have an active AKO account with a password to register and to complete the congressionally mandated DD2648 pre-separation checklist. Pre-separation briefings are held every weekday but Thursday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in Barden's Room 158.

A VA Disabled Transition Assistance Program Briefing is March 11 from 10 a.m. to noon in Barden's Room 160, for people who think they have a service-connected disability or a service-aggravated injury or illness.

NARFE meeting
The National Association of Retired Federal Employees Association Springfield Chapter 893 meets Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
The meeting location is The American Legion Post 176, 5620 Amherst Ave, Springfield, adjacent to Kay Jenning's Springfield Toyota.
Kurt and Rocio Duty, local realtors, will give a presentation, "Is this a good time to sell?"

Military leadership diversity
The Military Leadership Diversity Commission hosts its sixth public meeting March 17 and 18 at the Sheraton Annapolis Hotel in Annapolis, Md. The commission's 26 commissioners will continue their efforts to address congressional concerns related to the promotion and advancement of minority members of the armed forces, including minority members who are senior officers.
All members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend the two-day meeting session and comment at the end. Written statements may be submitted to the MLDC at any time through the organization's Web site, http://mldc.whs.mil.

AOWCGWA
The Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area hosts a luncheon on March 18 in the Koran Room of the Fort Myer Officers Club from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Donna Engeman, adviser for the military's Survivor Outreach Services, is the speaker. She helps the Army improve its support system for survivors of fallen servicemembers.

Beantown orchestra contest
America's Orchestra, the Boston Pops, celebrates its 125th Anniversary this season with a contest to bring a family of four to Boston to celebrate with the Pops.
To enter, contestants must submit a 125-character-or-less message describing why the Pops should choose their family for a trip to Boston's July 4 celebration this year. Entries can be submitted via text message by cell phone, on the Pops Facebook and Twitter pages, or on the Boston Pops Web site.
Submissions are due by May 15.

TroutFest
TroutFest is March 27 through April 2 at Fort Belvoir's pool number 1, South Post. As long as the fish last, people can come to the pool and fish for trout. Fishing is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. opening weekend and weekdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event costs $7 and includes poles, tackle, bait, and two fish (no refunds).

New York City trip
MWR has a day trip to New York City March 27 for $45. Take in a show, sight-see or shop. For the trip not to be canceled, 34 people must sign up. The bus leaves the Community Center at 7:30 a.m. and returns late in the evening.

Safety class deadline changed
The mandatory Wood Shop Safety Class deadline is changed to May 1 due to recent weather conditions.
Woodworkers who want to use Kawamura Arts and Crafts Center's Wood Shop are required to complete a mandatory safety class by May 1.
The class costs $5, which will be credited toward taking another class offered by the wood shop within six months. At the end of the class, patrons will sign a user's agreement and get a qualification card. Safety classes are conducted Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 pm at the Kawamura, Bldg. 1462, 9290 Gunston Road.
