Fort Belvoir and surrounding entities offer scholarships
Scholarships include:
• AUSA
The scholarship program for 2010 for the Association of the United States Army's Fairfax-Lee Chapter is open. Last year, the chapter awarded more than $18,000 in scholarships to students from the Fort Belvoir community. The scholarship program provides academic assistance to deserving students in a number of categories (Active, Reserve, National Guard, Wounded Warriors, Veterans, ROTC, Spouses and Children). All interested students are encouraged to apply.
Information and application packets are available on the "News" tab of the chapter Web site, ausafairfaxlee.org. The application deadline is April 23 and the chapter hosts an awards luncheon to honor the scholarship recipients in June. E-mail inquiries can be sent to scholars@ausafairfax lee.org.
• National Guard Bureau Officers' Wives
The NGBOWC is offers academic and need-assessed scholarships in 2010. Applicants must be either a 2009-2010 high school senior or enrolled as a full-time college student. The applicant must be a dependent (child or spouse) of a Soldier or civilian assigned to Virginia, Maryland or Washington, D.C., in one of the following categories:
1. Army or Air National Guard assigned to the National Guard Bureau
2. Active Army or Air Force personnel assigned to the NGB
3. Retired from the T-10 AGR program with the NGB
4. Deceased personnel whose previous assignment was the NGB.
5. Civilian personnel (GS/NSPS civilians) working full-time for the bureau.
Applications are not accepted from applicants who have previously received scholarship awards from the NGBOWC. Funds will be awarded through the academic institution's financial aid office to be used for educational needs, including tuition, books and related fees.
Submission deadline is March 31.

• Military family
Are you a military spouse or dependent looking for a little extra money to fund your education? Need that extra push to get you started? Park University offers Military Family scholarships for the 2010-11 academic years. Prospective students or newly enrolled students are eligible. The scholarship is for a year and is up to 15 credit hours.
Applications must be submitted by March 13.

• AOWCGWA
Through April 3, the Army Officers' Wives' Club of the Greater Washington Area and Fort Myer's Thrift Shop are accepting applications for scholarships to be awarded for the 2010-2011 academic year.

• Business scholarships
The Mount Vernon-Lee Education Partnership announces its scholarships for 2010 graduating high school seniors who plan to pursue further education in a business-related field. Graduating seniors who are residents of Belvoir are eligible.
Six scholarships will be awarded for $2,000 each. The scholarships are made available through the contributions of the business community in the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce.
Applications, whether completed online or mailed, are due April 23 and are available from mtvernon-leechamber.org/edpartnscholarshipform.html. Applications must include a copy of the high school transcript. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required to apply.
• Thrift Shop
The Belvoir Thrift Shop announces its 2010 Scholarship Program, with three categories: Academic Achievement Award for graduating high school seniors; Undergraduate Achievement Award for students pursuing a bachelor's degree; and Continuing Education Scholarship for the military spouse.
Applications are available at the Belvoir Thrift Shop at the corner of Caples Road and 21st Street during regular business hours: Tuesdays through Thursdays and the first and third Saturday of each month between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Applicants must have an affiliation with Fort Belvoir, for example, applicant or applicant's parent/spouse must be assigned to, deployed from, living on or working on Belvoir; or have completed 60 verifiable volunteer hours during calendar year 2009.
