National Memorial Day Observance
The National Memorial Day Observance program at Arlington National Cemetery will begin with an Armed Forces Full Honor Wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns at 11 a.m. May 31.
The observance program will commence in Memorial Amphitheater directly following the wreath-laying ceremony.
Seating in Memorial Amphitheater is on a first-come, first-served basis.
There will be free parking in the Arlington National Cemetery visitors.
Center parking lot for the general public from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. A free shuttlefrom the Visitors Center will provide transportation to and from the amphitheater.

Asian Pacific Heritage Month observances
• The Fort Belvoir Equal Opportunity Office will host the Asian Pacific American Heritage Observance at Fort Belvoir's Wood Theater May 20 at 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This year's theme is "Diverse Leadership for a Diverse Workplace." The Guest Performance for this event will be the Hawaiian Entertainment Company. There will be cultural displays, music and following the performance there will be an ethnic food sampling being provided by the Hawaiian Entertainment Company.

Recruiting Duty briefing
The United States Army Recruiting Command Recruit the Recruiter Team will brief all Sergeant through Sergeant First Class regarding the benefits, challenges, and qualifications of Recruiting Duty. Women in Aerospace, a leading professional organization dedicated to expanding women's opportunities for leadership and increasing their visibility in the aerospace community, will host a day-long career fair in conjunction with its Aerospace 2010 conference May 18 at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

Military Police Ball

Dog Daze Walkathon
American Legion Post 364, Woodbridge, Va., will host Dog Daze Walkathon Fund Raiser June 5. Registration starts at 9 a.m.
The event is free and open to the public. Donations to participate in the event are encouraged ($10 recommended). Proceeds will benefit deployed military working dogs and the future National Military Working Dog Monument at Fort Belvoir, Va.
The walkathon will take place on Post 364's natural forest trails and will take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. All well-behaved dogs are invited.

Family Campouts with Outdoor Recreation

Army Officers Wives Club luncheon
The Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area will be hosting a luncheon May 20 at the Koran Room of the Fort Myer Officers Club from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Operational Value of Threat, Risk, and Vulnerability Assessment Course
U.S. Department of Homeland Security Operational Value of Threat, Risk, and Vulnerability Assessment Course (FEMA MGT-336) will be offered in Chesterfield, Va., May 25-27. This course is federally funded and there is no cost. Seating is limited. The training will be offered at Public Safety Training Academy, 6610 Public Safety Way, Chesterfield, Va., 23832.
The training course will assist homeland security professionals from all emergency response disciplines and the private sector to understand and use operationally, information gathered in various threat, risk and vulnerability assessment methods.

Boater education
Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., all require boating education. The requirements are based on age. Each jurisdiction has its own requirements.
A class which meets the boating education requirements of all states is offered by Flotilla 25-8 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary on May 22 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The class meets at the Mount Vernon Knights of Columbus Hall, 8592 Richmond Highway, Alexandria.
Students receive a manual, a certificate, and card showing class completion.
The cost is $40 per student ($60 if a couple share the manual).

Community yard sales
The Villages at Belvoir Yard Sales are one weekend a month through October. All residents of The Villages at Belvoir can sell. However, anyone can stop by and make purchases.
Scheduled yard sales this year are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days.
Residents can only sell during yard sale dates announced and authorized by The Villages at Belvoir, unless otherwise authorized by community management offices.
Upcoming 2010 yard sale dates, weather permitting, are: May 15 and 16; June 19 and 20; July 17 and 18; Aug. 14 and 15; Sept. 18 and 19; and Oct. 16 and 17.
