National Memorial Day Observance
The National Memorial Day Observance program at Arlington National Cemetery will begin with an Armed Forces Full Honor Wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns at 11 a.m. May 31.

The observance program will commence in Memorial Amphitheater directly following the wreath-laying ceremony.

Seating in Memorial Amphitheater is on a first-come, first-served basis.

There will be free parking in the Arlington National Cemetery Visitors Center parking lot for the general public from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. A free shuttle from the Visitors Center will provide transportation to and from the amphitheater.

Movie screening, binge drinking discussion
Join the Fairfax County Police Department, the Fairfax Countywide Initiative to Reduce Underage Drinking and Northern Virginia Community College May 26 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. for a screening of the movie "Haze" and panel discussion on the dangers of underage binge and high-risk drinking on teenagers. A panel of Fairfax County experts from law enforcement, the medical community, NVCC, George Mason University, as well as a parent of a college student who died in a car crash following a college drinking party will be on hand to answer questions and share first-hand knowledge of the issues.

The event will be held at Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center, Northern Virginia Community College, The Forum (2nd floor), 8333 Little River Turnpike, Annandale, VA 22003.

EFMP support group
The next Fort Belvoir Exceptional Family Member Program support group will be held June 3, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Bldg. 200, 9800 Belvoir Road, Fort Belvoir. The topic will be Medicaid Waivers. Representatives from the Fairfax County Medicaid office will present information on the process of applying for Medicaid waivers, forms needed for screening, and verification. A social worker will also discuss the services covered, such as nursing home care, home health care, and limitations of activities of daily living for adult consideration. Social workers experienced in screening for children will not be present, but parents are welcome to come and obtain formation regarding application procedures, points of contact, and general information. Volunteer appreciation

NARFE Springfield Chapter picnic
NARFE (National Active & Retired Federal Employees Assoc) Springfield Chapter 893 will hold its annual picnic June 3 at Mason District Park, 6621 Columbia Pike, Annandale, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Note the new location this year: www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/maps/masonmap.htm. It will be a catered barbeque by Dixie Bones and desserts will be provided by attendees for the first ever dessert bake-off. Judging will be held and prizes awarded.

Cost is $15 per person. Reservations are required and are due no later than May 28 (no refunds after May 28).

Survivor Outreach Services class
Your Insurance Needs by Jan Chapman, CFP(r) will be held from 11:30 to 1 p.m. June 9.

The Survivor Outreach Services mission is to educate the community about the Survivor Outreach Services Program and advocate on behalf of all Families who have suffered the loss of a Soldier.

Recruiting Duty briefing
The United States Army Recruiting Command Recruit the Recruiter Team will brief all Sergeant through Sergeant First Class regarding the benefits, challenges, and qualifications of Recruiting Duty. Recruiter Presentation will be in the Barden Education Center, Room 122, at 1:30 p.m. June 2. Attendance by all NCO's and their spouses is highly encouraged. Family Campouts with Outdoor Recreation
Come to Outdoor Recreation to pay and reserve your tent space. The next two campouts are scheduled for: 10 a.m. May 22 until 4 p.m. May 23, and 10 a.m. June 26 until 4 p.m. June 27. The Outdoor Recreation crew wants to take you to a Washington Nationals Game the next one on June 4 (against Cincinnati Reds). Army Officers Wives Club luncheon
The Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area will be hosting a luncheon May 20 at the Koran Room of the Fort Myer Officers Club from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Operational Value of Threat, Risk, and Vulnerability Assessment Course
U.S. Department of Homeland Security Operational Value of Threat, Risk, and Vulnerability Assessment Course (FEMA MGT-336) will be offered in Chesterfield, Va., May 25-27. This course is federally funded and there is no cost. Seating is limited. The training will be offered at Public Safety Training Academy, 6610 Public Safety Way, Chesterfield, Va., 23832

The training course will assist homeland security professionals from all emergency response disciplines and the private sector to understand and use operationally, information gathered in various threat, risk and vulnerability assessment methods.

Marine Corps Systems Command Job Fair
Attend the Marine Corps Systems Command Job Fair on May 22, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the University of Mary Washington's College of Graduate and Professional Studies, 121 University Blvd., Fredericksburg, Va.

The Command is offering exciting civilian careers in engineering, program management, operations research/cost estimating, information technology management, contracting, financial management and logistics management.

It is recommended that resumes be submitted before the event by following instructions provided at www.marcorsyscom.usmc.mil and clicking on "May 2010 Job Fair." Qualified candidates who send in resumes may be invited for a pre-scheduled interview on the day of the Job Fair. However, submitting a resume before the fair is not required for attendance.

Applicants will be evaluated based on a comparison of position requirements against the quality and extent of the experience or related education as reflected in their resume. Applicants are encouraged to bring plenty of resumes and to allow ample time for resume screening and potential, on-the-spot interviews.

Kayaking for Wounded Warriors
Join Team River Runner, Outdoor Recreation and Benyaurd Pool to learn the basics of kayaking in the comfort of an indoor pool. The next class is May 26 at 7 p.m. Information is available by calling 703-805-3081.

Boater education
Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., all require boating education.

The requirements are based on age. Each jurisdiction has its own requirements.

A class which meets the boating education requirements of all states is offered by Flotilla 25-8 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary on May 22 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The class meets at the Mount Vernon Knights of Columbus Hall, 8592 Richmond Highway, Alexandria.

Students receive a manual, a certificate, and card showing class completion.

The cost is $40 per student ($60 if a couple share the manual).
