Labor Day is dedicated to the achievements of American workers who contributed to the strength, prosperity and well-being of our nation. Labor Day weekend marks the symbolic end of the summer, and the end of the DoD's "101 Critical Days of Summer." Over this long weekend, take a well-deserved break to recharge, and celebrate the fact that we have had very few accidents this summer.
The trade and labor organizations that helped shape this great country also influenced the workplace safety rules that we use today. These rules protect employee health and promote continuous risk reduction in our daily job activities. Take the same attitude home with you this weekend, and make this a zero-mishap holiday.
Each member of the Fort Belvoir family is "essential" to our mission. Remember personal safety is a big part of the Army's mission, and it should be part of your plan:
• When traveling by car, ensure the driver is well-rested, all passengers are buckled up, and proper vehicle checks have been performed.
• If alcohol is part of the plan, always plan for a designated driver to get everyone home safely.
• Ensure common sense and safety awareness are part of outdoor recreational activities such as boating, swimming and camping.
Soldiers are reminded to visit the TRiPS website and complete the mandatory POV risk assessment tool if they are taking leave, pass or are on TDY. Civilians are also encouraged to use this risk assessment tool at https://safety.army.mil.
Please help prevent accidents through responsible behavior and lead by example.
As you celebrate Labor Day, think and practice safety at all times, so your holiday will be a pleasure to remember.
Enjoy the holiday!
