Visitor Center closure
The Visitor Center at Tulley Gate will close at noon Friday. Additionally, the Visitor Center will be closed all day Dec. 23 and Dec. 30.

Legal Assistance changes

Thrift Shop holiday and winter hours
The last day the Thrift Shop will be open in December is today. The Thrift Shop will reopen 9 a.m. Jan. 3.

The Thrift Shop follows Fairfax County Public Schools’ inclement weather policy. If Fairfax County schools are closed due to inclement weather, so is the Thrift Shop. If schools have a delayed opening, the Thrift Shop will open at 10 a.m.

Scrapbook social
Army Family Team Building hosts a holiday scrapbooking social Friday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Army Community Service, 9800 Belvoir Road. Call (703) 805-1150 to sign up to attend. The first five people to sign up and attend will win a door prize. Light refreshments will be provided.

Annual Fort Belvoir bird count
The Fort Belvoir Christmas Bird Count is Jan. 1. This annual count is sponsored by National Audubon Society. The cost is $5, collected the day of the count, and covers the cost for Audubon to compile the data and send out The 112th Christmas Bird Count 2011-2012, American Birds. Novice birders as well as experts should consider participating; novices will be teamed up with seasoned birders, for an invaluable learning experience. Meeting location is Accotink Bay Wildlife Refuge Environmental Education Center for all start times (5 a.m., 7 a.m., and 1 p.m.). To register, call Kevin Walter at (703) 805-3969.
