The Prince William Girls Slow Pitch Softball Lassie League seeks umpires for the 2012 season running Apr. 14-June 23. Individuals 16 years old and older (male or female) are eligible. Training will be provided and this is a paid position.

Veterans’ wheelchair games fundraiser
The Military Order of the Cootie, an Honor Degree of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, hosts a fundraising event in support of the Veterans Wheelchair Games that will include comedic acting, impersonations and live music entertainment. The fundraiser is Mar. 16 at the VFW, Post 1503 in Dale City, Va. and starts at 8 p.m.
Tickets for the concert are available with a tax deductable donation of $15 for singles and $25 for couples. Make checks payable to MOC 14 and mail to 59 Clark Lane, Stafford, Va. 22554.

Youth rugby
Registration for the Fort Hunt spring 2012 high school rugby season has begun.
The league is open to boys and girls and is the only youth rugby program in the Mount Vernon/Hybla Valley/Fort Belvoir area. Fort Hunt rugby welcomes novices or experienced players and certified coaches will teach participants how to play.

Adult recreational volleyball resumes
The 2012 adult recreational volleyball program has begun and additional players are needed. Games are Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. at Graves Fitness Center on Abbott Road, Building # 2116. Open play will be on Volleyball Court #1.

Functional training
Operational fitness development is available for military and civilian personnel.
These free 1-hour sessions are designed to improve mobility, strength and energy, and to exceed the standard military fitness program. Your fitness progress is charted through a 6-week cycle, but we welcome anyone to jump in anytime. Sessions are at Specker Field House for Soldiers and civilians. Civilians are required to sign a waiver form before participating in the class. (Forms are available at Specker Field House or online at www.belvoirmwr.com)
Current cycle sessions are through Feb. 17, Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., and Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m.
Intramural basketball
The 2012 intramural basketball season is underway at Graves Fitness Center.
Games are played Monday through Thursday starting at 6:30 p.m. and the regular season runs through Mar. 5. The championship tournament is March12-15.

Youth Sports practices
County Basketball teams are currently practicing in Specker Field House, Monday through Friday, 7-8 p.m. Once temperatures fall, practice will be moved to Youth Services, schedule to be determined.
Wrestling practice is currently at Outdoor Recreation, Bldg. 778, at Tomkins Basin. Cheerleading practice location is still to be determined.
Aerobics classes

In addition to Spinning, Yoga, Repfusion, Zumba, Turbo kick, Pilates, Step & Sculpt and Power Pump, two new classes are being added: Yogalates, a blend of yoga and Pilates for complete fitness, strength and flexibility, and Absolution, a core class that challenges your functional movement within your core. Classes are at Graves Fitness Center on North Post. The cost is $71 for 10 weeks or $7 per session for walk-ins.

Spring Little League baseball registration
Three weeks remain to register for the Fort Belvoir Little League season. Sign up at Central Registration, located in Markham School Age Services Building, 9500 Barlow Road, 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Military dependents ages 4-16 are eligible. Eight-year-old players, whose birthdays fall between May 2003 and April 2004 who wish to play Minor Division (kid-pitch) ball and played as such in the fall season, may attend the 9 year old sessions of tryouts for consideration. Parents should state this desire in the comments box of the team assignment card when registering. Now is the time to update your child’s sports physical so they will be ready to play when the first practices begin in early March. The information packet about the league will be available at the Central Registration Office and on the DFMWR website in January. Little League umpires needed
Virginia District 9 hosts its annual umpiring clinic Feb. 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Feb. 19 from 9 a.m. to noon at Woodbridge High School, 3001 Old Bridge Road, Woodbridge, Virginia.
The clinic is a classroom study with some practical exercise in the gymnasiums (outdoors weather permitting) on the nine major divisions of the Little League rulebook: game objectives, terms, game preliminaries, starting and ending the game, live ball, batter, runner, pitcher and umpire.
The clinic is free but registration is required as lunch is served at the Saturday session and an accurate count of participants is necessary.

Cosmic bowling starts at 12:30 p.m. Saturdays at the Bowling Center.
Cost is $3.75 per person, per game, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., $5 per person, per game, from 5 p.m. to midnight.

The 8 a.m. first tee time will be the first tee-time every day.
The clubhouse opens one hour before the first tee-time and the pro shop and snack bar open 30 minutes before the first tee-time.
The first tee-time of 8 a.m. will remain through mid-March.

Learn to Kayak
Team River Runner, Outdoor Recreation and Benyaurd Pool offer opportunities to learn the basics of kayaking in the comfort of an indoor pool. Following completion of the instruction at the indoor pool, participants may join Team River Runner on a local trip or visit Outdoor Recreation for a paddle at Tompkins Basin. A bi-weekly kayaking program is offered to promote physical and emotional healing and is designed for all Wounded Warriors and their Families. Admission is free, including equipment.
