Comedy Show and dinner

Dueling Pianos
The Dueling Pianos group performs Jan. 28 at the Community Center. Performers play hit songs from every genre. Cash bar provided for the evening and hors d’oeuvres served 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The show is open to adults 18 and older, but must be 21 to drink.

Arts and Crafts 70th birthday
Kawamura Arts and Crafts celebrates the 70th birthday of the Arts and Crafts Program through Jan. 21. The crafts shop will host demonstrations and projects all week long.
The woodshop demonstrates daily how-to projects on the scroll saw, lathe and band saws:
• 9 to 11 a.m., Personal Name Plates, House Numbers, Plaques, and States
• Noon to 4 p.m., Tops, Pen and Bowl Turning
• 1 to 3 p.m., Box Making
• 1 to 3 p.m., Basic Table Making, Mortising and Dovetailing
• 2 to 5 p.m., various other projects such as instrument making and assembly kits.

Activities for children
Staff from Child, Youth and School Services offer enrichment activities to Fort Belvoir Communities and at the Community Center in Bldg. 1200, 10300 Taylor Road (off Belvoir Road near Pence Gate). Woodworking safety class
Woodworkers wishing to use the Wood Shop are required to complete a mandatory safety class. The class is Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m. The wood shop is closed to non-class members during the class.
The cost of the class is $5, which is credited toward taking another class offered by the wood shop within six months. Upon completion of the class, patrons must sign a user’s agreement and receive a qualification card. Valid cards from other installations are honored, however patrons, must ask for assistance, and receive training, on unfamiliar equipment. For more information, call (703) 806-4654 or (703) 806-4647.
Mobilization and Deployment Readiness workshops
• Training is every second Monday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon. It provides Soldiers and Families an understanding of the pre-deployment process, and discusses the financial, legal, medical and practical preparation. Pre-Deployment checklists are provided. Resources and special programs are explained.
• Reintegration & Reset Training is every third Monday of the month from 10:30 a.m. to noon. This workshop will teach coping strategies and techniques for single or married Soldier, a single-parent Soldier, a deployed civilian, a spouse or a child facing stress with regard to reunion.
• Ready 4 Reunion Spouse & Family Workshop is every third Monday of the month from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Families of returning service members/civilians will learn what expect after their loved one comes home from a combat zone and what is "typical" and when should they become concerned.

Nurse Assistant Training Program
The Nurse Assistant Training Program offered through the American Red Cross in Alexandria is now approved by MyCAA (Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts). MyCAA is an employment assistance program that provides up to $4,000 of financial assistance to eligible military spouses who are pursuing a license, certification or Associate’s degree in a portable career field and occupation. A four week-day course and a six-week evening course are currently offered in Old Town Alexandria. There are plans to expand to Fairfax in February.
After successful completion, a certificate enables participants to take the Virginia State exam and become a licensed Certified Nurse Assistant.
MOAA offers interest-free loans and grants for undergraduate study
Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Scholarship Fund for the 2011-12 school year offers up to $5,500 for sons and daughters of military members who are currently or formerly serving.
The MOAA Educational Assistance online-only application for the 2012-13 school year is now available on MOAA’s website at www.moaa.org/education.
