Letter to the editor: Belvoir resident approves of speed signs

Thank you for the speed signs.

I currently live in Belvoir Villages down from the Officers’ Club. My street in particular, Mason Drive, has a horrible situation with serious speeders coming out of the Club making it extremely dangerous, in my opinion, to allow my two daughters (ages 6 and 8) to play in our front yard without close supervision.

Many people coming from the Club have been drinking, especially after social functions and wedding parties. It’s also risky leaving our cars parked on the street directly in front of our house. It would not take much for speeding drivers to lose control, drive up over the curb and into a resident’s front yard. I know the Belvoir Police are sick of hearing from us regarding speeding issues.

Right now, Installation Support Services is across from my house installing a new solar-powered speed sign that I am thrilled to have in front of my house. The mobile trailers that police have previously set up were excellent at making the drivers aware how fast they were speeding especially since they flash red with excessive speed. Our new speed sign is now a permanent fixture. I believe it will significantly help to reduce the speeding and make my front yard so much safer for my daughters to play in.

I personally thanked the workers installing the speed sign today, and they told me I should particularly thank the post commander because he is the one who made this happen.

To the fabulous post commander, thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this happen. It’s all about making this neighborhood so much better and so much safer for not only those of us who live here but everyone who comes through. But mostly, thank you for caring so much to keep my kids a little safer while they are simply playing in their own yard. I am so very, very grateful.
