Veterans wheel chair games fundraiser
The Military Order of the Cootie, an Honor Degree of the Veterans of Foreign Wars hosts a fundraising event in support of the Veterans Wheel Chair Games.
Event will include comedic acting, impersonations and live music entertainment.
The event is March 16 at the VFW Post 1503 in Dale City, Va. and starts at 8 p.m.
Tickets for the concert are available with a tax deductable donation of $15 for singles and $25 for couples. Checks made payable to: MOC 14 and mailed to 59 Clark Lane, Stafford, VA 22554.

Youth rugby
Registration for the Fort Hunt spring 2012 high school rugby season has begun. The league is open to boys and girls and is the only youth rugby program in the Mount Vernon/Hybla Valley/Fort Belvoir area.
Fort Hunt rugby welcomes novices or experienced players. Certified coaches will teach participants how to play.

Adult recreational volleyball resumes
The 2012 adult recreational volleyball program has begun and additional players are needed. Games are Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. at Graves Fitness Center on Abbott Road, Building # 2116. Open play will be on 1 Volleyball Court.

WAMAC winter basketball at home
The Fort Belvoir Washington Area Military Athletics Conference men’s basketball team hosts Quantico Marine Corps Base Saturday at 3 p.m. and Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Sunday at 3 p.m. The Fort Belvoir women’s team hosts Fort Meade Saturday at 1 p.m. and Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Sunday at 1 p.m.
Fort Belvoir will host several games in January and February.

Functional training under way now
Operational fitness development is available for military and civilian personnel.
These free one-hour sessions are designed to improve mobility, strength and energy, and to exceed the standard military fitness program. Your fitness progress is charted through a 6-week cycle, but we welcome anyone to jump in anytime.
Sessions are at Specker Field House for Soldiers and civilians. Civilians are required to sign a waiver form before participating in the class. (Forms are available at Specker Field House or online at www.belvoirmwr.com.)
Current cycle sessions are through Feb. 17, Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., and Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m.
Intramural basketball season under way
The 2012 intramural basketball season is under way at Graves Fitness Center.
Games are played Monday through Thursday starting at 6:30 p.m. and the regular season runs through March 5. The championship tournament is March 12-15.

The Fort Belvoir DFMWR Sports Office is looking for qualified men’s and women’s coaches for the FY12 post-level softball season.

Softball umpires needed
The Northern Virginia Softball Umpire Association seeks new members.
Experience as an official in any sport is preferred; however we provide training to anyone who is interested in becoming a softball umpire.

The steam room is awaiting parts with expected delivery in mid-January. Once parts are received, repairs will begin.
The facility is now open earlier. Monday through Friday, Graves will open at 5 a.m. instead of 5:30 a.m. and close at 9 p.m.

Spring Little League baseball registration
Registration for the spring Little League season has begun at Youth Services Central Registration, located in the Markham Building, 9500 Barlow Road near the intersection of Mount Vernon and Hurley Roads, 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Military dependents ages 4-16 are eligible. Players age 8, whose birthdays fall between May 2003 through April 2004 who wish to play Minor Division (kid-pitch) ball (and played as such in the fall season), may attend the 9 year old sessions of tryouts for consideration. Parents should so state this desire in the comments box of the Team Assignment card when registering.
Now is the time to update your child’s sports physical so they will be ready to play when the first practices begin in early March.
The information packet about the league will be available at the Central Registration Office and on the FMWR website in January.

Little League umpires needed
District 9 will conduct its annual umpire clinic for all experienced, new, and prospective umpires Feb. 18 and a half-day session Feb. 19 at Woodbridge High School.
Central Springfield Little League will conduct their free annual umpire clinics at Garfield Elementary School each Tuesday evening 7-8:30 p.m. beginning Feb. 7 through March 20 with field mechanics on March 17 or Sunday March 18.

Women’s basketball try-outs
The Fort Belvoir Women’s Basketball Team conducts basketball tryouts Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m. in Graves Fitness Center’s gym. Try-outs are open through January.

Volleyball at U.S. Coast Guard Station
The U.S. Coast Guard Telecommunications and Information Systems Command (TISCOM) will host volleyball games at the Coast Guard Station, off of Telegraph Road, on Sundays from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Games will promote military volleyball and the TISCOM Drill Facility. Military or DoD employees who live in or around Franconia are invited to play (BB to B Level). There is only one court available so participation will be on a first-come-first-serve basis. Cosmic bowling starts at 12:30 p.m. Saturdays at the Bowling Center.
