    The new hours for the recycling center at 6010 Pohick Road (bldg 1089 of operation are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The center is closed on weekends and government holidays. The 24-hours drop off location still be open and available.

  • Religious Briefs for May 10

    The Protestant Women of the Chapel’s semi-annual Free Market is Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Chapel. They need items now to give away. Start cleaning out your closets, drawers, garages and basements now for items that you no longer want. Collection of donations of gently used items will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Woodlawn Chapel. Please only donate items that are in good shape and working condition. Please separate clothes by size. If you have big items or lots of stuff, please bring someone to help you unload and bring things inside. If you are interested in volunteering, contact outreach@pwocfortbelvoir.org.

  • Entertainment Briefs for May 10

    The Northern Virginia Chapter of the International Plastic Modelers Society hosts Model Classic 2012, Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fairfax High School, 3501 Rebel Run, Fairfax, Va. The event features hundreds of museum-quality scale models, contests, raffles, activities and more. Admission is $8 for adults or $10 for the entire family.

    During Memorial Day weekend, The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors hosts its 18th Annual TAPS Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp for children and teens from across the country. Current servicemembers and recent veterans are needed as volunteer mentors.

    The Fort Belvoir Chapel community is excited to have the Rev. Leo Patlanghug participate in several events at the chapel on Wednesday and 10. Author of "Grace Before Meals: Recipes For a Family Life," he has also won a cooking competition on "Throw Down with Bobby Flay." Born in Baltimore and currently a member of the faculty at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Md., Leo travels the U.S. and Canada sharing his cooking talents and his love of God.

    The morning outbound traffic pattern at Walker Gate changed on April 18. From 5-9 a.m., Monday through Friday, traffic exiting Fort Belvoir onto Mount Vernon Memorial Highway will only be permitted to turn right. People needing to reach Richmond Highway (Route 1) are encouraged to leave post through Pence Gate. There is no change to incoming traffic at Walker Gate.
