A disastrous second half against Walter Reed eliminated any chance of victory for the Belvoir Lady Eagles Sunday, as they dropped their final home game of the WAMAC season by a score of 70-51.
The afternoon looked promising for Belvoir, particularly after battling back from 14 down to go into halftime trailing 33-25. At one point, Belvoir out-rebounded the Warriors and were able to penetrate the lane for some easy lay-ups. But, at the start of the second half, it appeared their
competitive fire quickly vanished.
Walter Reed increased their lead to double-digits with a 20-6 run and was able to coast the rest of the way. Coming off the bench to provide a spark for her team was Belvoir coach-player Shonda Moore, who made back-to-back jump shots during her time on the floor. However, the damage was already done.
"I told the girls to keep their energy up, but it just didn't work out for us today," Moore said after the game. When asked if she would head up another ladies' team next year, without hesitation, Moore replied, "Absolutely."
Margaret Herrera and Jennifer Martinez led Belvoir with eight points each.
Fort Belvoir had not fielded a ladies' basketball team in two years.
