The Belvoir Bowhunters held an indoor archery competition at the Fort Belvoir Archery Center Sunday.
Twenty-seven archers competed in nine competition classes, and each archers shot 60 arrows at a 20-yard range. The maximum possible score is 300 points and 60 "X", which is the very center of the target. Prizes consist of decorative pins.
Bowhunter Free Style was won by Richard Ridley with a score of 298 and 28 Xs (298/28). John Cooper was second with 291/26 and Joe Kolling was third, scoring 291/23.
Ted Bradford won Freestyle class with a score of 299/42 and had the highest score for the competition.
Stan Parmentier (299/37) won Freestyle Senior class with second-place going to Charlie Shupienus (257/12).
Freestyle Limited was won by Vic Mathews (249/9), an international archery champion who celebrated his 89th birthday on the day of the competition.
Traditional class was won by Paul Vogel (279/11), Kevin O'Shea (214/3) was second, and Adam Hatchl (199/7) was third.
Russ Hatchl (189/6) won the Traditional Senior class.
Young Adult - Female was won by Sara Lavenhar (264/0). Patrick Tarman (247/10) won the Youth class and Brecken McDermott (269/14) won the Cub class.
The archery center hosts the Virginia Bowhunters Association State Indoor Sectional competition this weekend. The competition is being held at four separate locations across Virginia.
Registration begins at 6 p.m. Friday. Welcoming ceremonies are at 8 a.m. Saturday morning with the competition to follow at 9 a.m. Sunday's events start at 7:30 a.m.
