Whitewater rafting
Outdoor Recreation hosts whitewater rafting trips to Harper's Ferry July 10 and Aug. 14.

The bus departs at 6:45 a.m. and returns at 5 p.m.

The 4.5-hour trip winds along the Shenandoah River as it tumbles into the Potomac on a 6.5-mile watercourse through the Blue Ridge Mountains across Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.

Cost is $74 per person and includes transportation, picnic lunch, rafting guide and equipment. No refunds. Sign up at least one week before trip.

Golf Club July 4th celebration
The Fort Belvoir Golf Club hosts a Family Day Celebration with a day of events. Woodlawn and Gunston golf courses are available for open golf with the first tee time at 6:30 a.m. Free make-your-own-pancakes available from 7 to 10 a.m. in the dining room/patio.

A modified Calloway individual stroke play nine-hole golf tournament has a 2 p.m. shotgun start on the Woodlawn Golf Course. Cost is $20 for golf club members and $30 for eligible patrons. The cost covers two closest-to-the-hole contests, prizes, awards and barbeque.

Free range balls are available from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

A children's putting contest is from 7 to 8 p.m.

A Red, White and Blue Sale is from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Pro Shop.

All-you-can-eat homestyle barbeque is available on the patio from 5 to 7 p.m. for $10 per person. Children under age 12 eat free.

The Lounge opens from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and offers Fourth of July specials.

All events are open to golfers and non-golfers.

Wilderness Challenge 2010
Fort Belvoir is currently seeking a female to join its team to compete in the Wilderness Challenge Oct. 7 to 9 in Fayetteville, W.Va. The event includes a whitewater raft race, an 8K run, a mountain bike race, a mountain hike race and a Duckie race.

Registration is open to active duty military. Teams must consist of a captain and three supporting members, one of whom must be female.

AT&T National tickets
The Belvoir Community Center has 1,450 free military tickets for the AT&T Golf Tournament Tuesday through July 4 in Philadelphia.

Tickets are available to all DoD personnel on a first-come, first-serve basis and are good for any one day at the tournament. Four-ticket limit per person, and valid military/DoD identification to pick up tickets.

Pig Out with the Redskins
The West Potomac Touchdown Club and Jeremy Jarmon of the Washington Redskins host the Pig Out with the Redskins community fundraiser from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Primo's Restaurant off Fort Hunt Road in Belleview Plaza.

There will also be a silent auction, and Jarmon will be joined by other members of the team for a meet-and-greet after dinner.

Cost is $30 for adults ages 18 and up, $20 for youth ages 7 to 17 and $10 for ages 6 and under. Profits benefit the West Potomac Football Program.

Intramural sports tournaments
The intramural bowling championship begins with qualifying rounds July 12 and 19 and the tournament July 26.

Active duty, DoD civilians, family members of active duty ages 18 and up attached or assigned to Fort Belvoir are eligible.

The intramural golf championship begins with qualifiers at 2 p.m. July 8 and Aug. 10. The championship is at 2 p.m. Sept. 2. An organizational meeting is at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Fort Belvoir Golf Course.

Cardboard regatta
The cardboard regatta is at 9 a.m. July 24. A design meeting is at noon Saturday at Pool No. 1, Bldg. 259, on South Post.

The event offers adult and child divisions and three award categories.

Nature walks
Outdoor Recreation hosts nature walks along the Accotink Bay Wildlife Refuge once a month through September. Walkers will have the opportunity to discover Belvoir's 1,315 acres of hardwood forest and marshland.

Hikes offer valuable earth-conscious insights from the Environmental Education Center.

Dates are June 27, July 25, Aug. 22 and Sept. 26.

Walkers receive a pocket guide. Reservations limited to first 20 people.

Nationals baseball games
Outdoor Recreation hosts a trip to see the Washington Nationals play the San Francisco Giants July 11. The trip leaves at 10 a.m. for the 1:35 p.m. start time.

Cost is $21 and includes ticket and transportation.

Tennis block party
A tennis block party is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the South Post tennis courts.

Children can experience QuickStart tennis, an exciting play format to introduce children to the sport. Tennis tips and program offerings will also be discussed.

Family campout
Outdoor Recreation hosts an overnight family campout at 10 a.m. Saturday until 4 p.m. Sunday. Campers can fish, kayak and canoe, hike along the Accotink Bay and roast s'mores over a campfire.

Campers should bring tent, sleeping bag, camping supplies, food and water. Outdoor Recreation offers these items for rent as well.

Cost is $5 for tent space, fishing equipment and bait, scavenger hunt, sporting equipment and S'mores.

Boater education
Flotilla 25-8 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary offers a boating education course from 6 to 8 p.m. July 12 to 15 at the West Marine Store, 601 S. Patrick St. in Alexandria.

D.C., Maryland and Virginia impose fines against boat operators who have no evidence of taking a boating safety class are welcome. The course meets the boating education requirements for all states.

Students receive a manual, certificate and card showing class completion.

Cost is $40 per student, or $60 if two people share a manual.

Country-western dance
The Northern Virginia Country Western Dance Association hosts its smoke-free, alcohol-free dance July 3 at Luther Jackson Middle School in Falls Church.

There will be lessons in the Long Legged Hannah line dance and the Side Kick couples specialty dance between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. Open dancing is from 8:30 to 11 p.m. and includes two-step, waltz, line, swing, cha cha and other specialty dances.

Couples and singles are welcome.

Cost is $10 for NVCWDA or PSDC members, $12 for non-members and $5 for ages 18 and under accompanied by paying adult.
