Armed Forces Kids Run
The America's Armed Forces Kids Run is at 9 a.m. May 15 at Pullen Field for children ages 5 to 13. Registration is open through race day and can be found at americaskidsrun.org.
Fort Belvoir Golf Club membership
Any individual who works or lives on Fort Belvoir is eligible to play at the Fort Belvoir Golf Club. Annual green fees packages are available. Join by March 31 and receive a complimentary cart for one and bucket of range balls, as well as entry to win a $250 gift certificate for the Pro Shop.

Ladies golf association
The Ladies Golf Association of Fort Belvoir hosts its opening coffee and general membership meeting at 9 a.m. March 25 at the Fort Belvoir Golf Club clubhouse.
Membership is open to all female servicemembers, active duty or retired, and female dependents of military personnel, active duty or retired.
Play begins April 1 and continues through October.

Post softball
The men's post softball team seeks players for this year's team. Practice begins March 30 and continues every Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m. at North Post softball field.

Kayak course
A kayaking course is offered at Benyaurd Indoor Pool with Team River Runner and Outdoor Recreation from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Wednesday and March 31.
The class teaches the basics of kayaking in the comfort of an indoor pool. At the conclusion of the indoor pool instruction, Team River Runners offers local trips and Outdoor Recreation offers equipment for use at Tompkins Basin.
A bi-weekly kayaking program is also offered to Wounded Warriors and families to promote physical and emotional healing.

Sexual Assault Awareness race
The second annual Belvoir Sexual Assault Awareness 3K Walk/Run is April 2 at the Fort Belvoir Golf Course at 7 a.m., after a proclamation signing at 6:30 a.m.
The theme for Sexual Assault Awareness Month 2010 is "Hurts one. Affects all. Preventing sexual assault is everyone's duty."
T-shirts awarded to first 150 participants to finish the run. Event is free and open to Soldiers, family members and civilian employees.

TroutFest
TroutFest is March 27 to April 2 at Belvoir Pool No. 1 on South Post. For seven days - or as long as the fish last - come to the pool and fish for trout.
Weekend hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; weekday hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $7 and includes poles, tackle, bait and two fish. Refunds are not available.

Fort Hunt rugby
Fort Hunt youth rugby offers a introductory and skills clinic March 29 to April 2 at Collingwood Park, 8200 W. Boulevard Drive, Alexandria.
The summer rugby program runs from May to August for 11-and-under coed touch, and ages 13, 15 and 17 tackle teams for boys.

Spring youth soccer
Spring youth soccer registration is open through March 26. Divisions are age 5, ages 6 to 7, ages 8 to 9 and ages 10 to 11. Season runs from April to June.

Sonic Boom track registration
Registration for the Sonic Boom Track Club is open for boys and girls ages 5 to 18 at Child and Youth Services. More information is available at 703-805-9139 or 703-805-1257.

Little League baseball
Little League registration has closed, but tee ball and junior players are needed as of this writing.
Players ages 13 and up will be contacted for tryouts soon as two teams are being formed.
Team managers are needed for the Tee Ball, ages 5 to 6, and Machine Pitch, ages 7 to 8, divisions. Manager's first child plays free.
The league information packet is no longer in print but is still available at belvoirmwr.com.
Volunteer umpires are needed for the 9-to-16-year-old divisions.

Retired men's golf association
The Fort Belvoir Retired Men's Golf Association is gearing up for official start to golf season on April 1.
The group comprises U.S. military servicemen and retired DoD civilians and hosts several open events for authorized patrons of the Belvoir Golf Club who also have an official USGA handicap.
The Spring Bash open is April 19. The Patriots Day Open is Sept. 4. The Fall Bash Open is Oct. 4. The Sugar Plum Open is Nov. 4.

Outdoor Recreation classes
The Virginia State Hunter Education Course is available online Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Students should bring the certificate of completion to Outdoor Recreation. Course limited to 30 students, and all students must be 15 years of age or older. An in-class session and two additional online sessions are available in the fall.
The Belvoir International Bowhunters Education Program classes begin Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Additional classes are available from July to November.
Beginning archery classes are 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays with registration at 5:30 p.m. Class includes certified instructors, equipment, safety class and basic archery lesson.
Active duty military cost is $7 per student and $5 for each additional family member; all other categories are $10 per student and $8 per additional family member.

Spring into Spring races
The Spring into Spring 5 mile and 5k runs are at 8 a.m. Apr. 18 at Pullen Field.
Registration is $15 in advance, $20 after Apr. 1. Registration closes Apr. 12 and no same-day sign-ups are available.
Each entrant receives a commemorative T-shirt. Fifty runners required, and race open to 300 runners.
Register online at active.com and enter event name, or mail-in registration fees to DFMWR Sports, 5820 21st Street, Ste. 203, Fort Belvoir, Va., 22060. Application must be submitted to either fitness center by close of business Apr. 12.

All-Army chess championships
Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall hosts the All-Army Chess Championships May 15 to 21.
Players must be active duty and a United States Chess Federation-rated member. Twelve players will be selected to represent the Army at the 2010 championships.
Application deadline is Apr. 2.
