The Washington Area Military Athletics Conference men’s and women’s winter basketball season gets underway at 1 p.m., Saturday at Fort Meade, Md.

<b>Winter archery league under way</b>
Fort Belvoir Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation has started the Winter Archery League at the Archery Center.
Registration opens at noon and the shoot begins promptly at 1 p.m.
All are welcome. This is an excellent way to sharpen your indoor competitive skills.
The registration fee is $5 per person. Individuals who are new to competitive archery are especially welcome.
<b>Ski, Snowboard & Tubing Trips</b>
Fort Belvoir Outdoor Recreation offers a ski, snowboard and tubing trips Dec. 17 and Dec. 28 to Liberty Mountain, Pa.
Be the first to hit the slopes this year, rent equipment from our shop, purchase lift tickets or just take us up on transportation.
We depart ODR at 6 a.m. to arrive at the slopes first thing at 8 a.m. If you rent with us, we load, unload your equipment and let you sleep on the drive!
Cost is $15 per person for transportation.

<b>Meadowood hunting lottery</b>
The 2012 Meadowood Managed Hunt, located on Mason Neck, Virginia, will have a lottery-draw hunt Jan. 19, 20 and 21.
Names entered into the drawing will include those taken from the Mason Neck Refuge orientation and from postcards or emails: jreffit@blm.gov (put HUNT in the subject line) marked no later than Dec. 19.
Only one lottery ballot will be accepted per hunter. Hunters must circle gun, bow or either on the ballot.
This antlerless only hunt is restricted to archery, shotgun or muzzleloader.
Each hunter drawn will be contacted by phone and required to stop by the Lower Potomac Field Station office, 10406 Gunston Road, Lorton Virginia, between 7 a.m. 4 p.m., Dec. 21 or 22, to pick up a map unless other arrangements are made.

<b>Hockey returns to Prince William County</b>
The National Capitol Region Joint Military Hockey Team returns to action Saturday with their fourth annual Toys for Tots charity hockey game against the Prince William Hockey Coaches.
The puck drops at 2 p.m. at the newly rebuilt Prince William Ice Center, 5180 Dale Blvd., Woodbridge.
Tickets are $10 and there will be a prize raffle and auction.

Now is the time to update your child’s sport physical so they will be ready to play when the first practices begin in early March.

<b>Women’s basketball try-outs</b>

<b>Volleyball at U.S. Coast Guard Station</b>
The U.S. Coast Guard Telecommunications and Information Systems Command (TISCOM) will host volleyball games at the Coast Guard Station, off of Telegraph Road, on Sundays from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Games will promote military volleyball and the TISCOM Drill Facility. Military or DoD employees who live in or around Franconia are invited to play (BB to B Level). There is only one court available so participation will be on a first-come-first-serve basis.
